Hmm, disappointed Andrew is gone. Anyone else want to punch Gipper in the face with that smug, cocky attitude after that approach shot?

Gipper might be smug and cocky, but so is Andrew. Why are you disappointed that he's gone?

What got me was the whole "gunning for Andrew" thing. I mean, yeah, he's from NY and Duke and has that cocky/confident attitude but I've been around lots worse than him. But the fact is, he backed up his confidence with great play. Why they felt they had to target him doesn't make sense. I guess it makes for good TV. But frankly it shows these guys to be immature and NOT ready for a Big Break (oh, and did Gipper's shoulder suddenly get better...that was crap excuse for poor shots). What's really amazing is that Andrew hadn't hit a remotely bad shot the entire show until that last approach while all these other guys have hit buckets full. That's golf.

Boy what an terrible night for TV. Andrew gets elminated (however he did kinda drop the ball, you simply cannot hit it in the water on big break) on BB, and Abel Teller was kidnapped on Sons of Anarchy as the season ending cliff hanger.

All this on the first night I had my new 40 inch Samsung hooked up!!!!!

What I would give to be able to even consider a 9 iron from 180 yards. I mean it didn't look like the wind was blowing at all and they certainly weren't down hill enough (or at all) for it to help that much.

I am said to see Drew go, I thought he was a great player and played well until the ball in the water. I am not a fan of Kevin and I hope he's next to go. That would be an exciting three remaining.

Andrew had the smirk which I think made a lot of people think he was cocky. I think there's confidence and then there is cocky. I don't think Andrew crossed the line into cocky. I think he had confidence in his ability and until the last shot of the show, he backed it up. Andrew never said a bad word about anyone on the show, congratulated everyone and wasn't a baby when he was defeated. More than anyone else on the show can say (except maybe Kevin).

Now, all the crap Blake kept spewing like: "I'm one of the best players on the show, etc." that was cocky in my book. He just never backed it up.
Dude hit a 9 from like 170, and he plays blades.. Tell me you wouldn't wanna brag a little...

Why does his playing blades make a difference? If you hit it in the center of the clubface it doesn't matter what clubs you play.

It's hard to tell on TV even when it doesn't look like there are hills or wind. On TV, Augusta National seems fairly flat but that course has more hills than any course I've been on I think. Every hole is up and down which can give the impression a guy is longer than he really is (or shorter).

Gripper may very well be able to hit a 9 that far, I have no idea. Just saying TV really hides things. It would be nice to be able to say you can hit a 9 that far, but really why? It seems like he swings all out on every shot. Why swing all out with a 9 iron in your hand? Hell, throttle back a hair, you'll be more accurate and still be two clubs longer than the next guy. That would be my approach if I had his length.

I'm rooting for Kevin too, but only because I want to see a guy shoot 100+ in a PGA Tour event.

He's terrible. As for last nights episode, I found it rather strange that they only played par-4's. Think they purposely didn't put a par-5 in there because Gipper would have had a huge advantage on a par-5? I mean if dude is hitting 9 iron from 180, I can't see many par-5's he wouldn't be able to hit in two. But hey...I can hit my 9-iron from 180 too so I don't see what the big deal is. Of course mine will only go about 140 yds but still.....I can hit it.

You guys fail to see that the producers of the show have to generate some drama to get you to watch from week to week. How boring would it be if you didn’t have a guy like Andrew on the show?

So by careful editing, asking pointed questions you get some interesting sound bites. The show is very predictable, the only thing that isn't is the golf shots. They can't predict those, but the lead in to the end of each show is made to be misleading so you watch till the very end.

Nothing like getting your advertisers maximum bang for their bucks! If I see another Cialis commercial I'll scream.

Kevin's wows are just a substitute for something else. Dammit or shit or something like that. You can't fault a guy for trying to clean it up. He hasn't shown much game but I hope he's able to put it together for the finally.

I think there's a difference between "failing to see" and "seeing, but not caring."

I think most people here know it's still, in the end, "TV."

Gipper has no class. if there was any reason to go after andrew it was because he was a bigger threat than almost anyone there. the poor comments made by him were un-sportsman like and not with the spirit of competition that has been part of golf for generations. i hope he does not win for that very reason

I hear you. What no one sees is the gentle proding behind the scenes to elicit those comments by Gipper. All reality based shows have very little reality in them!

Weird... just caught myself up on the last 3 shows last night.

1) So bummed that Vince is gone. What a solid player.

2) I started off liking Blake and hating Andrew... That almost switched at the end. I kind of felt bad for Blake at the end when he said something to the tune of "I wish I just would've relaxed and enjoyed it more." I know the feeling of when you put so much pressure on yourself to do well that you can't get loose or have any fun.

3) Andrew still irritates me to no end, but I respect his mental game and he comes up big when he needs to (except the last full swing he took).

4) If Erdman makes it to the final show I'll be completely shocked. Granted, he hits some decent shots when it counts, but he has also hit some of the worst shots I've seen, going all the way back to the first show. I mean, I'd be pumped too if I wasn't expecting to make it that far, but all the "wow, I can't believe I'm still here" stuff is getting old. He basically says on every show that everyone else there is a better, more established player than him.

i predict erdman winning... not by hitting great shots... but by someone else not hitting the shot to send him home... lols...

imagine erdman on tour winning an event playing horrendous golf... "wow i shot a hundred today... thank god tiger shot a 101! wow"

    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
    • What has gone downhill? Have you been practicing properly, filming your swing, working on exactly what he suggested without straying? My thoughts are that your results/outcomes from a lesson a year ago probably aren't all that relevant anymore.  And carry distance is far more important than total distance. Total distance is going to vary significantly based on course conditions.
    • One thing that has helped me tremendously is to spray the club face with foot powder when I am on the range. Seeing ball impact can be quite helpful if you are hitting shots all over the place. It's not the cure all, but a good little thing to do on the range. The other thing, and I will forget to do it, is the pre-shot routine. Find me a spot a foot or so from the ball in-line with my target, take my stance, take the swing.  Sometimes you take a BS practice swing with no thought. Make it deliberate.  As far as swing thoughts. I have 3 check-points. First is set-up, Second is my take away, Third is my downswing. I cant explain what I think I just know in my mind. Its a feeling that I have that feels right and experience has shown that if I follow those 3 thoughts more than likely the outcome will be what I was looking for. Now, thinking about the feeling and executing it properly is a whole different thing, that;s why I practice, I used to be over a 20 handicap, I am down to a 15.1 in about a year.  I feel like its good progress. the goal is a 10 by the end of the year. If I make it great, if not, hey at least Im not in Gaza. LOL
    • I usually shy away from giving advice on a golf swing since so many here are more qualified than I am.  You might try the following:  Create a "MySwing" page on this  site and you will get a lot of good advice Filter all of the advice and try to only focus on one or two things at a time.  Unfortunately it is very hard, if not impossible, to constantly change different things at the same time.  Figure out what is the most important thing to work on at this moment in your golf swing and focus on that until you have it engrained, then move on the the next change. Remember, we all have both good & bad shots.  The difference between the pros and us hackers is the ratio of good to bad shots. Understand that a bad swing can occasionally look like a great result and a good swing can occasionally have a bad result.  The key is to focus on one thing and work to get that as consistent as possible.  Ideally that will gradually increase the number of good shots vs bad shots.    Do not forget to have fun.
