I have 15 clubs that I would like to keep in my bag but I understand that I can not. I have a putter,pw,sw,gw,lw,4h,5h,3i,6i,7i,8i,9i,d,3w,and 5w.What should I take out of my bag?I would not take out my hybryds or 8i because these are my go to clubs. Also does the ball I play with make a difference in my play if yes what do you suggest?
Thanks.

Lose the 3 iron. Look at other threads as to ball advice.

First of all....how did you get to the point of being an 11 hcp without knowing a thing or two about ball differences? Yes, it can make a huge difference.

I had a simular choice to make....I dropped the 5 wood. I can grip down on my 3 wood and get 5 wood distance a trajectory that will hold greens.

In your case, maybe the 3 iron?

4h , 5h , 3i ,6i,7i,8i,9i,d, 3w ,and 5w

Lots of potential overlap amongst the bolded clubs. Personally, I'd ask:
-Do I need 2 hybrids?
-Do I need a 4h and a 3i?
-Do I need a 4h and a 5W?
-Do I use my 3W ever?

I play Driver, 4h, 3i, and I really could drop the 3i, except I have a spot for it in the bag since I don't carry fairway woods, so no good reason to take it out.

Personally, if I was you, I'd ditch the 3W, 5W, 5h, and 3i and maybe get a 3h or 2h, and a 4i and 5i.

Then you could go
D, 3h or 2h, 4h, 4i, 5i, 6i, 7i, 8i, 9i, PW, GW, SW, LW, P

But that's just me. I personally don't see the need to carry fairway woods any more since I have a hybrid (and I could probably drop the 4h for a 3h or 2h and get better results, but I love my 4h so I sacrifice 10 or 20 yards for consistancy.)

3 iron or 5 wood. Keep the one you hit the better of the two. If you hit them both equally well, then ditch the one that creates the bigger gap between the 3 wood and the 4 hybrid.

I was wondering the same thing... and I also say to lose the 3i.

I would get rid of all of your wedges...start hitting a noodle and you will every green so you won't need a wedge.

Till then I would lose the 3I, break it in half and throw it out so you don't get tempted to use it again.

The 3-iron is the simple answer since your 4H should be about the same distance. Try playing with bunch of different golf balls and find one that you like.

It's hard to say definitively which club you should drop without knowing more about your game, the type of course(s) you play and whether you carry or cart (i.e. whether you have a smallish standbag or a large cart bag). With that many hybrids and woods I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you either use a pull cart or ride - that's a lot of headcovers to fit in a small carry bag like an older Sun Mountain Anyway "putter,pw,sw,gw,lw,4h,5h,3i,6i,7i,8i,9i,d,3w,and 5w" seems to be top and bottom heavy. Let's say for argument's sake you hit your 7 iron 160 yards as a starting point. I'm going to take a shot in the dark guess at why you play your current setup. You can decide which club to pull depending on the weather/wind and which course you're playing. On the way up from the 7 iron, you have 6i (170), 5h (185), 4h and 3i (both ~195 yards but a higher ball flight on the 4h), 5w (210), 3w (225), Driver (250) On the way down from the 7 iron, you have 8i (150), 9i (140), PW (125-130), GW (115 full on, or 100-120 depending on the swing), SW 70-100, LW (anything less than 60 yards and when you're shortsided). There are arguments to keep each club, if my assumptions are even close. The answer for, "Which club do I drop?", could be different on any given day, and likely depend on a few factors. - Which tees will you likely play from? How tight are the driving holes? If you're playing up and the driving holes are tight with defined landing areas, you may choose to leave the driver in the car. - How long are the longest par 3s? How many forced carries will you face? If there are no par threes longer than 200 yards and you can run the ball up on most holes, you may not need the 4h or the 5 wood. - Do you plan to go for the green in two on the short par 5s and longest par 4s? If the answer to both of these is no, then the 4h, 5 wood, and 3 wood are all candidates for staying in the trunk. - Is there a lot of rough around the greens? Do typically hit your approach shots at least pin-high with your misses landing long, left or right or the green? If you answer yes to these questions, you'll probably want to keep all of the wedge options - this may give you the most confidence. - Are your approaches typically right on target, but a bit short of the green? If this is the case, you could leave the LW at home, but don't forget to take your sand wedge - check twice before heading to the tee. Basically, you need to keep track of the clubs you use more and/or less often and on which courses this is the case. There is no one carved in stone set-up. I will strongly suggest tracking down your missing 4 and 5 irons in case you play a links or parkland style course - they're great for long chips (with an exaggerated putting stroke). As always, have fun!!!

I too have 15..however, depending where I'm playing will determine if I leave (in the truck) my 3 W or 2 I. I could probably choke down on the 3W, but...why?

Why would you get a 15th club if you are only allowed 14?

Thats almost like asking.."Why would you get married again after you've gotton divorced"! I added a 60* wedge. I'm willing to bet that MOST folks on this forum

OWN more than 14. No biggie!

You only own 14 clubs? Heck, I've only been playing 5 years, and I've got, off the top of my head,

2 drivers 5 FW woods 5i-SW 2-3 putters LW extra carry bag extra shoes etc. In addition to my main clubs. As I replace stuff, try different stuff, determine a club doesn't work for me, etc, I usually throw the leftovers in the basement in case I determine I DO want it some day. Or because it isn't worth the $20 it would go for on eBay, etc.

    • I watched this video of his last night: I don't hate him like @boogielicious apparently does and thought this was a pretty good premise so I gave it a shot.  Not the worst thing in the world and I especially liked the premise.  He's got a lot of air to fill by himself, which he isn't great at, but in doing so, you get some decent insight into how his brain works while setting up shots/putts.
    • So driver is longer than all the other clubs and gear effect plays a bigger part with driver than anything else. If you're hitting it out of the heel it could slice even if you have the face square. Could try some foot spray or impact tape and check that. Other thing is if the shaft is different in how it flexes or how flexible it is it could be affecting your swing somewhat. Driver also has the straightest face, so while with a 4 iron it might fade, with driver that can wind up being a slice with the same face angle at impact.
    • Yeah I have taken lessons. I also got clubs fitted in like 2011 ish. My driver and wedges aren't from that set though.    1. I'm just not sure why I can't seem to get the face back to square. I don't have that problem with my other clubs. Sure the longer ones a miss tends to be a slice, but I don't need to make a grip change to only sometimes hit the ball reasonably straight.   2. I think there is a bit of inaccuracy there. The number I have in my head is like 195 for my 5 iron. 4 iron also definitely has more variance than all my other irons, but 210ish is about right for non mishits.
    • Only if they call you Poindexter!
    • For multiple reasons, including "why should anyone else care to continue to search for someone else's ball?" No thanks.
