Im having problems rotating my hands through impact causing fade and sometimes slice especially in my driver!! can anyone recommend any drills to help me cure this fault!!??

is your grip neutral? or weak? A stronger grip will likely yeild the results you're looking for.

Without seeing video it's hard to say whats really going on.

One basic fundamental in relation to grip and release is the more you hold the club in the palms of your hands the harder it is to release the club, and vice versa, the more you hold the club in your fingers, the easier it is to release the club.

Start with your grip and experiment with how your holding it. You might be "palming" it too much!

I don't know if it's the same thing or not - but I have a tendency to "roll" my right forearm under my left at impact which contributes to my slice. I thought I was using a strong grip but was actually "pre-rolling" my right arm under the left at address so it couldn't roll more at impact.

Maybe check your grip because I agree with the other poster that you shouldn't have to try and rotate or flip your hands at impact. I lost hours and hours trying to do that after I (mistakenly?) interpreted that to be the advice of AJ Bonar (secret of golf video).

Agreed on the grip (weak, neutral, strong). Fiddle with it. Watch pressure of the grip as well. This happens when I'm gripping it with too much pressure. When that happens, the muscles in my forearms and others tighten up and hinder a natural release. On the follow through, it feels like I'm hitting a sand shot and end up with a push, fade or slice.

Agree with above. The release isn't really something you want to consciously do. It just happens with good fundamentals. Usually a weak grips hinders your ability for the release to happen naturally.

Sorry for the intrusion, but could grip size have any effect on the ability to release the club?

Besides the above replies, proper rotation through impact can be hindered by:

A swing that is too upright and/or standing too close to the ball.

It's not something you should have to do conciously. Some part of the swing is causing you to hit left. Could be a bad grip, could be you are rolling the arms over in the backswing, could be cupping the left wrist in the backswing. Perhaps some over the top issues, maybe because of a bad swing plane.

Several different opinions and not ever one can be right for you. In fact if you take the advice of everything listed here you'll probably wish you had the swing you had two prior to starting all this stuff. keep it simple, try one thing that makes the most sense, but try not to think about all the others while doing it, commit to one idea and move to the next or you will be doomed.

this is very true. when we try too hard or try to crush everything, we choke the club which will kill your swing. relax the grip and recheck all the basics, grip, setup, watch the ball, swing plane, etc. i have a system that works for me all written down and when i start to struggle, i go back to the basics. then one by one i recheck all of these to get back on track. i like to start from square one which is usually the grip. i make sure my grip is correct and then i hit shots with a more relaxed grip. it usually works. see if this works for you.

More suggestions than advices really, and yes, that is the problem of trying to help someone without even seeing the swing. A visual image give us a much better clue to what the problem might be. There is no doubt that a lot of things can cause problems in a golf swing. We can give the OP a lot of suggestions to potential problems, but it's up to him if he wants to experiment with them. Without lessons and video, trying and failing is really the only way to do it.

Try the thing that makes most sense? A golf swing does not make sense to most players, which is why we have a hard time finding the problem ourselves. This is why we ask on a forum like this, to get some ideas to what could potentially, but not necessarily, be the problem. It goes without saying that you can't try 10 different suggestions at once, I don't think anyone have adviced to do so either.

How do you setup for driver? if your ball is about front foot heel, then make sure your shoulder are not opened. It happens often when people put the ball more forward in their stances, and instead of feeling that left shoulder get higher, right shoulder get lower... they open shoulder, so they ball slice more and more as they put the ball more forward. Try keep everything square to the target line. Anyway, it might be something else.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.Β
