I voted wedges because my results rarely match my expectations. Right now my woods are very frustrating as the shafts don't fit my swing, used to be my favorites to hit but updated and gave my old Wilsons to my sons buddy. Wish I had my old ones back but can't bring myself to ask for them back as he is hitting them well and really likes them. Kicking myself for not making sure I was going to like my new ones before giving away the old ones.

I left the putter out because the stroke is the easiest to make. whether or not you actually hole the putt is irrelevant to how easy the stroke is.

Wedges... there are so many different shots that you have to hit with them.. low, high, running, one-hop and stop, flop, not to mention all the different distances. Sure it might be easier to hit a green, but as misses go, the misses are less forgiving than with a driver or other clubs.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Growing up I had an old set of Northwestern blades that belonged to my grandfather. The set included a 1 iron. Let me tell you, there are putters out there with a bigger head than this thing!

But as for right now... my wedges give me fits. I go through phases where I pull them BADLY. It eventually gets worse to where I'll even shank them off the hosel.... it creeps up on me at least 1 or 2 rounds a year.

Driver without a doubt. My fairways hit percentage w/ driver is about 40%. With my 4i or 3H, this goes up to 70%.

Wedge shots I feel very comfortable with. However, my definition of comfortable is on the green within 30' of the hole. I am sure your definition is different than this.

Driver. The longest shaft and the longest shot, a miss will be further astray than with any other club. Unlike most of the other clubs, it's adviced a ascending stroke, which differs from all the other clubs.

I left the putter out because the stroke is the easiest to make. whether or not you actually hole the putt is irrelevant to how easy the stroke is.

In that case, I'll change my vote to long irons. If holing the putt (i.e. having made a successful putt) is irrelevant, then so is getting close to the pin with the wedge.

Long irons and hybrids. Driver was the best club in the bag. Now it's tied for best. Solved my long iron/hybrid problem by getting the same make, model and shaft in a 7 wood as I have in my driver... MacGregor Mactec NVG2. I was so happy with both of them, I went out and bought an NVG2 3 wood with the same shaft. I'm not quite as consistent with it yet, but it is promising, and I was really struggling with my 3 wood off the deck. Only needed it 3-4 times per round, so it wasn't mission critical to fix the problem. I hit the 4, 5 and 6 irons pretty well, but a NVG2 9 wood is really starting to tempt me.

I'm going to have to say 3 wood right now. It has been giving me a hard time lately and I am starting to get unconfident with it, especially off the deck.

long irons are the hardest for me to hit so I stop at the 6 iron and play a 24 degree hybrid to fill in the gaps distances.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
