Ok, so this inaugural Asian amateur with the winner going to the Masters is great and all, but can US amateurs play in the Asian amateur as they can play in ours. If not why the hell should they be able to play in ours, and get two chances at the masters?

I'm pretty sure they can. I don't know of any prestigious amateur championships that exclude players based on their country of residence.

My guess is that they gain more by playing here than our guys would by playing there

It doesnt seem like everybody according its World Amateur status can particpate - only members of the APGC (Asia Pacific Golf Federation).

But, just have a look who the initators of this tournaments are. The R&A; and the Master Tournament put down the money for the creation of this tournament to promote Golf in Asia - so i dont see a big problem in it, that the winner gets an invitation to the Masters and also entrance to the final Qualifying for the British Open.

Because the purpose of the U.S. Amateur is different from the purpose of the Asian Amateur tournament. And the purpose isn't just to send someone to Augusta.

Really??? Here masters, there masters. Sounds pretty similar to me. I've been on this level its big no matter what continent you are on. My point is they can play in EVERY USGA event but there is exclusions to play in theirs. It should be the same both ways, I would jump at the opportunity to play in an Asian event.

Look at the leaderboards on every tour. Asians are already in the mix.

Dude, what's your beef? Did someone take something away from you? Have you lost an opportunity to make it to the Masters? Did they take away YOUR exemption and give to Asia?

You want to play on the Asian tour? Get on a plane and make it happen. No one is stopping you. Otherwise, I don't see what you're complaining about.

I´ve never been on that level - but i checked what i would need to participate in the US Amateurs - that would be an USGA Hcp - what i as a member of the german golf federation dont have. So if i would like to particpate in it, i´d have to become a USGA member if i´m not mistaken. Same with the Asian Amateur, if you want to participate - become an APGC member (which includes the area from the Middle East to Japan including Australia - so almost half the world) and off you go.
