Srixon I-506 harsh feedback?

I'm looking for a set of irons that are a little more towards the player irons side of the scale compared to my X-18s. Srixon irons appeal to me for some reason and I found them really cheap on ebay.

So, I'm between the 506 and the 701. Seems like the 701 are more forgiving, but they are also more expensive.

Which brings me to my question. Due to a litany of surgeries on my right shoulder, arm, hand and to my spinal cord, the amount of vibration on mishits is a huge issue for me. Hence my choice of Callaway X-18s even though I prefer a less shovel-like appearance in my clubs.

I fully understand my situation might make it impossible for me to move from the ultra or super game improvement irons. I would rather play them and be able to play a lot, than play something with a more harsh feedback profile and play less.

If someone has a suggestion other than the Srixon models I mentioned that's fine too. This is the beginning of my search so I'm open to all advice. Money is somewhat of an issue, but I am not set on buying right now and can save for the right clubs. My plan is to take lessons and work hard on my game all winter so I'm ready to go in the spring. It would work out perfect if all that work was done with the new clubs.

But, if I keep my Callaway irons I'm OK with that too.

A Mizuno cavity back forged iron set is my dream set of irons. But, I get the feeling the feedback won't work with my gimpyness. Put it this way, the muscle at the base of my right thumb that allows the pincer type movement of the thumb is GONE. There is nothing there to absorb shock with aggravates the vibration issue

My preference is for forged, but I'm not ruling anything out at this point.

You may want to consider different shafts (either in conjunction with new irons, or to replace the shafts with the Callaway irons that you currently use) to dampen the effects of vibration… True Temper Dynamic Gold SensiCore shafts purportedly work very well.

i don't see why you can't play with what you want. there are shafts like true tempers sensicore shafts that dampen vibration and i know some grips help with the dampening of vibration as well. do some research on shafts and even grips. everyone should enjoy a game of golf no matter what limitation

As of a month ago I resigned myself to playing shovels forever just because it is the easy thing for me to do. But after reading up on all the different forgiving players clubs out there, I thought with my goals next year being very difficult to reach, it might be time to give more workable clubs a chance.

In a perfect world, by the end of 2010, I will be getting my Mizumo MP-57s or MP-52s which seem to be a great forgiving but still workable option. If I go that route, the sensicore shafts are a must. One other set that jumps out at me is the Mizuno MX-100s. There is a bunch on ebay with a 4H, 5H and then 6 through PW. Seems like a good start into the Mizuno line. I know one thing, I want to play pure blades - as someone posted to one of the threads on blades vs cavity backs - if the pros are playing cb irons, who am i to play blades. Truth be told, that thinking is only worth it to one person - me. If someone else thinks blades are the answer for them then go for it. I don't believe in absolutes when it comes to picking clubs. The way I see it, to get my game where I want it, the super game improvement Callaway X-18s are going to have to go. Then again, some tour players still play the Tour version of the X series so, again, I am keeping all of my options open. I might just pick up a MP-57 six iron off of ebay and use it for my practice drills to help make better contact. Back when I played baseball, I used to take batting practice all week with a wooden bat and then switch to my aluminum bat for BP on game days only. Just some ideas I'm bouncing around as I get closer to not being able to play over the winter. Luckily, we've had warm weather so I haven't had to put my clubs away yet.

Try out the AP1s, really nice irons and if you mishit the ball it makes a cracking sound but no harsh vibrations like other clubs. Mainly just the sound tells you that it was mishit

I am not familiar with the I-506 but do have the I-701's...While the performance is excellent, I have to say I find the feedback quite harsh with them, much more than I had expected based on reviews I read. I previously had some MP-52's, which I stupidly sold, and the MP's were much better feeling even on mishits. I would describe the I-701's as having a large sweetspot for mishits, but a very small sweetspot regarding feel. Just my opinion...

I wouldn't recommend the MX-100. While they're still a very good set of irons from Mizuno, they have two big disadvantages, at least for me; 1-They're not forged, and since you're looking at Mizuno you're probably looking for something forged. 2-The lack of 3 iron is just annoying, at least for me. A buddy of mine has them, and he is really annoyed by the lack of longer irons, and a 5 hybrid? I mean, I'm a 28 and I still don't want to hit a 5 hybrid, a 5 iron is much more satisfying.

Check the MX-950. I have them, and they're BEAUTIFUL! Also cheaper than the 100's. They're forged and they have a 3 hybrid (and a 5 iron).

So, after hitting everything I could get my hand on, I think the Mizuno MX-200s are the answer. The AP1s are a close second and a used set of one of the other Mizuno game improvement clubs aren't out of the equation either.

But, as of right now, the MX-200s seem to be the best option for me.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I know the "what irons should I buy" threads get old. But, the diverse experiences of people on a list like this are very helpful to narrow down the choices.

Ultimately, it's up to each individual to dig the best clubs for them out of the ground. The advice of people who have been there before helps, often it helps a lot because it tips people off the clubs, like the AP1s, that they never would have considered.

So, I went for a lesson yesterday morning and the guy didn't show up. As it turned out, I got to hit just about every club I could while waiting since the lesson is inside a Golf Galaxy store.

I don't know what Mizuno does to their clubs, but after years of hearing how great they are, I have to admit, they live up to the hype. The MP-52s are truly amazing pieces of work - while my game isn't quite there yet, I have reversed myself and decided they are my next set.

I'm going to work all winter on my swing and when I get to where I want to be, I'm going to pop for the MP-52s. The MX-200s are a stop-gap on the road to the 52s so I might as well just wait and get what I know I ulitmately want.
