Damn I despise those things! I believe it's the dumbest thing ever!!! Personally, for some reason, I can't hit hybrids to save my life. I don't know what it is, and believe me I've tried! I'd rather carry my 2 and 3 iron (which I hit further than people carrying around pitty hybrids) and even switch out my 2 iron for a 5 wood depending on the course layout, weather, etc. But man, maybe it's my negativity towards them, but I was so optimistic to trying them out. I've hit the G10 hybrids and the Adams Pro Gold, I just couldn't hit the ball the way I would like. Even the golf pro was dumbfounded because I had the swing, I had the contact spot, everything, but the hybrid gave me the shanks! I took it out to a high school tournament cause my coach said I should still give it a try. Yep, I found to never carry a hybrid again. Don't get me wrong, after it's said and done, I still believe hybrids are good clubs, for those who need them, and can hit 'em! Hah. What do you, the people, think of hybrids and how have they helped your game? I mean, after all, isn't that what they're for....?

im with him i can nail two irons all day gie me a hybrid and watch alll the pretty hooks.i cant stand hybrids.

I'd like hybrids if I lived in AZ where there's no wind. Up here all there is is wind. I'm ditching my hybrid. Could be purchasing an MP Fli-Hi soon.

i would not give up my hybrid for the world. i don't carry a 5wood and don't like a 3
iron so instead i split the difference with a 18.5* nickent 3dx ironwood. this allows me to keep 3 additional wedges and i don't believe i will ever change. good clubs, but i know alot of people who can't hit them.

I used to be the same way as you, OP. I even went to Golf Galaxy with the intention of adding a 3 iron to my bag since my R7 set only went up to a 4 iron. Only problem was that most stores don't sell irons individually, so the salesman pushed me towards trying out some hybrids instead. At first I was hesitant but eventually hit the simulator with at least 8 different brands to test out. When I got to the Taylormade one that I own now, it just seemed that I couldn't hit a bad shot. I immediately made the purchase and couldn't regret it any less. I guess the moral of the story is that you need to test out all different brands since they all look and set up differently.

No wind in Arizona? Not at the golf course I lived on.

They call it a rescue club because you need to be rescued after you use it.

I got a Mizuno CLK fli-hi hybrid a few years ago as a xmas gift (shift shaft 17 degrees). I had a 30 yard hook with the thing and could not get it in play off the tee. I'm sure its a great club that works for plenty of people, but not me. The 2-iron quickly went back in the bag since I was playing in college tourneys that spring. I haven't hit a hybrid since. I may try another one down the road and will make sure to demo it a bit first.

I have a total of six in varying degrees. With the exception of one (the shaft sucks) all of them are fantastic. I don't use them all at once as it varies according to my mood. (Which just means when my swing is not there they all come with me)

I carry a couple of Adams Pro Gold hybrids in 2 and 4, and I like them quite a bit. They are awesome in the rough, and the 2 has saved me more times than I care to think about by being fantastic at punching low shots under trees from areas where my ball should not have gone in the first place. The only problem I encounter with them is that I can't seem to get them to go good off of fairway lies or teed up. The prettier the lie, the more likely I am to be disappointed with my hybrid shot. I don't quite understand it, but it is certainly a real phenomenon. Out of thick stuff though, my hybrids are like money for getting the ball up and advancing toward the green.

for those who have been ripping on my swing and that a low handicapper can hit any club. i can hit a hybrid good every now and then. it just doesn't sit right with my eyes, with my hands, how it feels. ahh, aggravating. this is just my opinion to myself and venting i guess. but for others, hybrids work and by all means use them! hah, but this was posted more as a, "how do hybrids work for you?" NOT "why can't I hit MY hybrid"

It's not the club, it is your swing. If you are a good golfer you can hit any club. Period. Do whats best for you. The old folks at my club hit hybrids because it is easier for them. I can hit long irons fine, but I bomb my hybrids even longer. It is actually the same swing as a 3 or 5 wood. A form like this really says, "I can't hit a hybrid to save my life. Is anyone else struggling with their hybrids, or is it just me?" aka should be in the tips part of thesandtrap form.

hah, yeah sure buddy, keep playing your silly hybrids...

I have a 4 and a 5 hybrid that came with my set. And I can't hit with them either, unless I'm in tall rough (which is what they're designed for). But off the tee, in the fairway, can't hit with them at all. I've just resorted to using my 5 iron In the tall rough, they do cut grass rather nicely though, I must say...

I can't imagine not having my hybrid in my bag. I can't imagine not having a hybrid in my bag, the ease of use the extra distance they provide. One of my best golfing friends hates them, he can't seem to find one that works for him. He can also hit a 2 iron with the best of them so it really doesn't hurt him that much. I have seen that some people don't like hybrids but I think its more about finding one that works for you. One manufactors hybrid might not work for you but I would recommend not giving up and keep looking till you find on that works. Also if your a high handicapper I can't imagine not having one in your bag, I think its more of a visual thing for most people, hybrids aren't the prettiest things out there.

I'm disappointed in all of the low handicappers chiming in saying they could do nothing but hook the ball with their hybrids, and instead of fixing the problem, they abandoned the hybrid.

For the most part, hybrids are made to go high and draw. Most have closed faces. The Adams Idea Pro Gold has a neutral face.

The first day I ever used mine I hit it great. Then I battled the hooks with it. I dedicated some range sessions to dialing the club in. I worked on backswing length, I worked on swing plane angles by experimenting with ball position and take away positions, but eventually I got it figured out. I can play SHOTS with it now, and I consider it very valuable. I know that I can hit the one hybrid I carry with great confidence.

note - I carry 4 iron and 4 hybrid (no 2 or 3 iron).

There are millions of articles and forums which go into detail about how to hit a hybrid. Not that it is hard - just hit down on the ball.

Okay, L and S, which is it?

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
