I have a corporate golf day coming up , a 4 ball comp with all the usual special prizes, nearest the pin, long drive , straightest drive etc.. Im looking for a little extra distance for the long drive holes so am thinking of changing balls for those holes only (i know your not supposed to but its not an official tournament) What ball would you recomend? ss is around 110mph

I'm trying to think of the those smaller, heavier British balls that go further...I think they're called Desperados or something. Get those.

I've purchased a dozen of the Condor balls from NGCgolf and they just don't work with any normal swing speed. You'd have to be superman to get one of them to boom out there. I've played with a bunch of guys who pound a normal golf ball pretty far, a nice drive that really flies, and without exception they all can't get the nonconforming ball to launch. It flies lower and rolls better, but it's not a net increase in distance. It does fight thru the wind but instead of a big arc out to the fairway, sanding softly and rolling a little, it's like a bullet that never gets enough lift to really get out there. I'm convinced it would take a guy with a competitive long drive type of swing to gain distance with the slightly heavier and smaller nonconforming ball.

Sponsorship does not equal choice. They have to use Pinnacle rocks.

You can use whatever ball you like. It will make no difference. But, probably anything BUT an Pro V1.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Still, pinnacle gold distance balls go pretty far.

I'd choose them for a long drive comp.

Dang, so they don't do much huh? That's a bummer, had dreams of sneaking them in the bag during tournaments and using them on the distance holes. Well there my cheating goes!

Well i ended up going with the HX Hot, absolutley nailed the drive but ended up about 5m short of the marker. I was using TP Reds for the rest of the day an they were going a lot longer than the HX Hot

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
