Left (front) heel in Stack & Tilt

Should the left/front heel lift during the backswing in a Stack & Tilt swing?

Any comments, suggestions, etc. are appreciated. My previous swing included lifting the left heel, but it doesn't seem necessary during my experiments with the S&T; swing.

Have you had success either way?

I know very little about the S&T; swing but what I have seen shows keeping the weight on the front side which would suggest that the front heel should not be raised even if it could be. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the S&T; will comment.

I agree. I don't see how you can keep your weight on your left side and move it further left through impact while lifting your left foot. I guess in theory you could do it but how would you ever keep balance.

I guess it does sound weird, but I can start with my weight slightly forward, make a backswing keeping stacked forward, and still lift the left heel. I do it automatically as it's been a part of my swing for so long. And it _feels_ like my weight stays forward.

With all of the other new parts of an S&T; swing I would rather not have to concentrate on keeping my heel down as well. What do folks who have made the switch have to say?

I think it's a bit of an optical illusion. His pant leg lifts up slightly...

But even if his heel does "move" it's about a centimeter, tops.

I imagine you would lose balance and near enough fall over if you lifted your left heel off the ground while staying centered (stacked). With minimal weight on your right side would it even be possible to lift the left heel without consciously thinking about it?

It is a bit of an illusion - Charlie's foot is not coming off the ground in the backswing - take a look at Charlie and many others in this video:

Ahh, I see the illusion. There is no real lifting of the heel.

The left heel does not raise in the S&T; swing. You put the majority of your weight on your front leg with the knee flexed. You keep your back leg straight but not locked. If you were to raise your left heel you would lean more forward coming off balance and the rest would be disastrous. I have been using S&T; since 2007 when it first came around and everyone thought it was a bogus new fad. Not realizing that Ben Hogan did it naturally so did Jack Nicklaus. The swings of alot of great golfers were analized and thats what they were doing. Andy Plummer and Mike Bennet then promoted it to the Golfing world and it is now used by atleast 30 PGA tour members and thousands of Amatures. If you are trying to learn the swing i suggest you do alot of research for a pro that teaches the swing. There are very few real teachers that are certified in S&T;, but thoudsands of imposters. It is a great swing and i highly recommend it.
