I use them to protect the graphite shafts on my woods and hybrids, I don't want the irons chattering against the graphite. ... and it keeps everything quieter in the back of my SUV.

I use them. I have the clear ones, forget the brand name though. They fit my irons nicely and keep them from banging around. I got them because I had read somewhere that the Di7's finish tends to chip and did not want that to happen. I have had no problems. There are plenty available on Ebay.

In my RJ bag:

Burner '07 3 wood

for mine - and of course it's subjective - but the pain in the arse of taking off the headcover every shot and putting it back it on every shot far outweighs the little nicks and such you get from use. Could be just me. I'm particularly lazy.

Nah, I am an old fart playing with friends, this spring I will play in a district tourney and I will probably pull the 3 and 6 rescues.

I use the covers as well, but once I'm on the course and use the club, I don't put the covers back on until I clean the club. The ones I use are made by castle bay and I love them.

I got a set of the AP1s in July and, due to reviewers saying the clubs chrome polish scratched easily, I got the neoprene head covers. Used them all summer long. I didn't find them to be annoying to take on and off at all.

Next year I will not use them, however. My clubs still got dinged and scratched (probably from hitting dirty golf balls at the driving range). So I don't think they are worth the effort.

I will keep the headcovers on when storing, though.

Im not a fan of iron covers. Not only do they look dumb, if you arent careful about making sure you dry off your irons after a shot, they will cause rust.

This set-up makes me claustrophobic - those poor sticks are gasping for air - let 'em out!

One of my relatives got them for me. As you can probably already tell, she doesn't know a lick about golf. Of course, I said thank you and accepted them, but I've never taken them out of the package. Irons are made to be dinged up a little. I'm probably going to resell my irons, so there isn't a huge point in keeping them squeaky clean. Of course, this doesn't mean that I'm going to hit a shot off a cart-path, or bang them up on purpose .

If i go play at the local par 3 course over in carlyle, ill pull out everything except 6-pw and sw and putter because none of the holes are over 150 yards so i dont need anything more than a 6 iron. I might put one of my old hybrid clubs back in in case i hit a crazy shot under a tree or something because it has a steel shaft and i wouildnt mind knicking it up because its a cheap club, can always get another one at walmart or used one at the local golf store, though with the weather we've been having lately i doubt Ill play for a while.

I have bought putter covers for my hybrids so they take up less room. Do the irons look happier?

dont let the comments bother you. if you like them, use them. you are not hurting anyone. like i said, some people like to take care of their things. i dont know why it bothers people so much when they see someone protecting their irons with headcovers

They do look a little happy, but perhaps they are in such a large family - maybe I'm wrong but I count 16 clubs in the bag!

It is all fun.
16 today, I think I am going to buy a seven wood too. Remember it is all fun.
On the course I leave my driver and putter covers off but use the rest. I think the putter covers will work better on the hybrids because they take up less room. Covers should not make a bag cease to function. I did not like the molded rubber iron covers because they are too big, and I specifically bought covers with windows rather than printed numbers. Covers are a thing of personal choice and I tend to over thing most choices, (at least my wife thinks so).

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
