Hey guys, so Im launching the ball waaaaay too high and balooning shots with my driver. They take off, stall, and drop with no roll....

Wondering if this is a shaft issue? I have the TM Burner 07 with a stiff shaft.

What can replace that shaft, and I know the Burner has a 46" shaft and is lighter to accommodate the extra inch. Will a regular 45" shaft be ok or will it throw off the weight of the club?

If changing the shaft will work, what can you guys recommend that wont break the bank?

Jim

Aldila VS Proto could be ok. Not so expensive and a real good overall shaft. High bend point for low trajectory and you can choose the weight from 60gr, 70gr or 80gr I think.

Hey Erik, not gonna do it now due to these big changes, but after just one change to the swing Ive noticed much higher ball flight with my driver....

When I figure out this swing, hopefully in 6 months or so, then I think Im gonna need a decent driver shaft. Thanks for the input everyone. Jim Jim

+1 right there. I had the same problem and just switched last year. It's really low flight , cost ~70 from golfsmith, and should help you. You should still see a professional fitter though.

Proforce V2... 65 or 75. Great shaft, low launch, mid/high bend point, low torque. Under $75 bucks I believe.

Titleist put together a pretty good shaft comparison . I've had the V2 in several drivers and it performed well.

I think the V2 really depends on your ss, which has not been metioned yet.

I recently was shopping for a shaft, and was ready to drop the Aldila NV 65 on my r7 CBG Max head, bcs i am facing a high launch angle (17* - 19/20*). My ss is about 94 once warmed up, I fitted very well to the Matrix Ozik XCon 6, but at $300 i opted for the NV65, which has very similar characteristics. I spoke with several club fitters in my area, and based on my stats, both agreed to have the NV65. AS I was getting ready to drop off my driver, the pros suggested the r7 Limited with the X-Con 5.5 $150, so I bought that instead of switching shafts...non the less, I think the NV should be a good shaft as well. The V2 felt flat to me...I tried for about 20 swings, and it wasn't for me. Granted I dont have 100+mph swing...just my opinion.
It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

Im not sure what my driver swing speed is. I know after warming up my 6 iron swing speed is 83-85 mph.... Dont know how that translates into driver speed though...??

UST Mamiya V2 Tour Flight. You can get a great deal on it at golfsmith.com right now if you go to the clubmaking specials page. You buy the shaft and a UST Grip and you get 52% off. I got the shaft with SST puring service for $50 and change. I was having the same problem as you with my 08 f speed ld so I put this shaft in and cut it down half an inch. It is perfect now...carrying 270 with perfect trajectory

With that kind of iron speed you're probably around 105mph average driver speed. When someone comes to me with the same kind of info you gave I look at the loft of the driver first (I measure it's actual loft and not just look at what is stamped on the head). Actual driver loft effects ball trajectory and spin more than the shaft flex. Any shaft you buy can be tip trimmed to produce a lower ball flight and spin but the driver loft is the first thing to match up to your swingspeed and angle of attack (whether you swing thru, up, or down on the ball). Hope this helps!

For the money UST competition are really nice shafts. You can get them really cheap. I'd wait and see as Erik says. You just don't know how the changes will effect ball flight. I'd consider how you are hitting it more than what you are hitting. I went through spells were I'd hit it too high, then make a slight change and bring the ball flight down.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
