My dear friends,

5 weeks ago y was hitting the ball very solid, i played with my father 9 holes and got a 38, hitting all fairways and feeling fantastic, almost like a pro... :)

However, i knew at that time that i should do something my hips, i have always been too static on the downswing, meaning that i wouldn´t turn my hips after hitting the ball.

So, as the weather was quite cold, i decided to do some half swings at my bedroom, focusing on turning my hips during the downswing and before hitting the imaginary ball (remember, this is in my bedroom, no balls used). This for 2 weeks or so.

I went to play last saturday after practicing that drill, and while warming up i could feel that hips seemed to be turning naturaly, the day was promising...

End of round: 55 shots, not a single good iron, most of my shots hooking and flat! I felt miserable. Somehow looks like doing all those half swings without a ball, that is no feedback at all, made me do some bad swings, moving my right shoulder down or whatever.

The thing is i can´t hit it straight at this moment, i have been playing many years and when a slice or hook wanted to visit me i always knew how to say good bye to them, but this time looks diferent, i hit 150 balls yesterday and things didn´t improve much....

I know that when you change something, it may at first deteriorate your game, i hope that all things i am undergoing at this moment are normal.

I'm sorry to hear that... My baseball coach told me in college, "everyday you can either get just a little better or a little worse; never the same. It's the effort you put in that determines which." While I agree with the first part, the second part is debatable (but so were his coaching techniques). Did you work infront of a mirror? Did you take video? Best thing you can do is go to a range with a camera...get video of your swing head on and from behind to realize what you did to yourself over the cold weather spell. What all did you change if you don't mind me asking? Swing plane? alignment? try to create more lag? shifting/sliding of hips? rotation?

That depends really, on whether you are making a correct change or not. What you feel and what happens are usually two different cups of tea. I suggest you find or get a camera to record your swing. It is very useful when analysing a swing, looking for flaws. You could be overturning the hips, or it could be something else completely.

Just relax, it happens. I've gone through periods where I couldn't hit a single ball even remotely well. It went away, and I got better. This is part of the process of getting better, make a change, and it takes time for it to come to fruition. If you let it get you down, you've already doomed yourself. Just keep your head up and keep practicing, it will come back, and you'll wonder why you ever thought you were hitting it well before.

Thank you very much for your wishes.

Al i have changed, to my concern, is hips rotarion on downswing, however something else has changed considering the kind of shots i am producing.

I have a little camera, will use it next weekend.

Again thank you

Thank you very much for your wishes.

Don't rotate the hips, start down with a bump, I.E. slide them forward, they will automatically rotate. Just take the club back, then slide your hips, and you'll feel the club being sucked down into the "slot."

Thank you very much for your wishes.

No problemo...Let us know how it goes...post vids if you can, we'll be glad to help out

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
