Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team…

Keep your chin up kid.

Who knows, this might be the motivating factor that takes you all the way to Augusta.

Tryouts that are only 5 holes whats the point of that? I think 9 holes is to short to see what everyone is capable of. My teams first match of the year after tryouts we maybe had 2 or 3 people who play 18 holes regularly and we had 2 solid scores in the low to mid 70s while everyone else struggled because they couldnt keep focus or just couldnt handle the walk. Dont worry about 5 holes if you dont make it just try and get into some junior events.

yeah it should be over 18 holes if you want to see what they're capable of.

But even then it should be done over a few days because you don't know if the person is just having a bad day.

I don't get how 5 holes are going to be very representative. Did everyone get a chance to play a couple long fairways, do a fair amount of chipping, recover from bad lies, get out of the sand, etc? I highly doubt it.

Was time or access to the course extremely limited or something?

If you don't make it, from the tryouts (in other sports) I've been through, let me offer this advice: 1) practice the things that went wrong for you this time around, 2) find one or two things that the players who did make the cut do well and become as good at them as you can. Next year, you should have a strong position.

Hoping for the best for you.

Good lawd I haven't checked this thread in a while! Well I didn't make it, too bad, but I'm not taking it very hard. It's another year to practice. I'd been playing for 9 months against kids who had been playing for years. (On the 2nd day of tryouts I got 4 over, the lowest of the day ) And some kids got on due to parental politics with the coach, pretty aggravating, but no biggy.

I really appreciate all of your good luck wishes and everything. For now, I head to playing tips section! I'm having a swing problem.

Thats too bad. If you are still interested in tournament play I'd recommend local Junior Golf events. From what I've learned about these tours, you can probably get even better tournament experience playing in their events. I'd imagine S.C. probably has a pretty active Junior Golf program of some sort. In Southern California the local section of the PGA puts on events just for juniors. You should ask your local Head Pro about those types of things. That's great experience. AJGA is nationwide. There is a kid I know that plays on a tour put on by the club manufacturer, US Kids.
