How do you avoid a letdown? What thoughts do you try and stay away from or what thoughts do you try and keep? I played my best round with my new irons on sunday and feel like it was probably the best mental round of my life. Now, I am sitting at my house and cannot get golf off my mind. In the past, this has lead to problems because I let my mind get in the way the next time out I over analyze everything. Lets hear some good mental advice.

I just try and get the fact it was my best round off my mind and just continuing to improve my game.

Though, it's pretty easy for me to say that being that my best round was the last round I played before the snow rolled in to town.

I'm just hoping I haven't taken a step back over Winter and can pick up where I left off.

Career Bests:

9 Holes--37 @ The Fairways at Arrowhead-Front(+2)

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Home Course:

1) The Fairways at Arrowhead

2) Mayfair Country Club

Isn't having good round in your mind a good thing? I think positive reinforcement is a great thing and having the thought of a good round is MUCH better than having a blow up round on your mind.

I say, relish in all of the good thoughts that you are having in your mind and apply them (within yourself of course) during your next round.

I would agree, I find that after a really good round, I tend to get in several more solid rounds. My strategy is to have the good round in my mind off the course and then clear my mind on the course, of course that can be easier said then done.

How do you like the 68's?
Back on topic just let your game do the work for you, just keep the flow going walk up to the ball and hit it.

I avoid a letdown by staying in the moment. When I have a good round its a great thing, but as soon as I start my next round I put the previous round out of my mind and just focus on the task at hand.

I love the 68's! It's my first full set of musclebacks. I went to the golf store to buy the 58's but when I got in there and took some swings with both clubs, I just loved the feel of the 68's. The short irons are just perfect and the long irons are not nearly as punishing as you would think. The sole grind was one of the biggest things for me as my local courses are usually firm and I love a narrow sole for clean contact. I would recommend them to anyone that is a solid irons player. It doesn't hurt that they are absolutely beautiful. I had some Titleist 735's and was happy with them, but I love the weight of the mizuno's.

Thanks for the advice. I hardly ever get to the range and it leaves too much time with me at my house dreaming up changes to apparently ruin my golf game.

after my best rounds I don't think anything mechanical. I remember how decisive I was, how good the shots felt, and how well I chipped and putted. I pay close attention to how well I read the greens so the next time I play I can draw on the experience.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

I'd get hammered in the 19th hole so I forgot about it.

I would say, try to stay medium. Although you want to revel in the pinnacle of your success, you have to remember that you're going to shoot higher scores than that sometime (not a time to get down on yourself either). Try to remember your swing keys from that day and keep that confidence going. Golf is a funny game. I've had good ball striking rounds and scored horribly and I've had bad ball striking days and I got up and down like crazy and made some putts to score low. Keep things in perspective and enjoy the journey that is golf.

Think about each hole, each shot. I will write down all my "good" to "great" shots. Anything positive that happened, focus on those shots/putts, relive them. Anything negative, gone. Not a memory. This goes with any round, not just your "great" ones. There are bound to be rounds that aren't so hot, but, in those rounds there will be great shots. Again, write and relive. After a while all you are thinking about is good shots. Good shots will continue to come.

just treat every round like your playing to win a tournament or to beat whoever your playing with and usally everything else in your mind goes away... at least it does for me... competition is a beutiful thing

I say don't look at scorecard until after your round, just relax ,play and have fun.

impossible... you just have to learn to embrace your score and realize that you have to do your best every shot regardless of what your score is at the moment

So your saying you don't think about how your doing when you play?

it's pretty hard not to be able to think about your score at all.

    • Akshay Bhatia beat him in a playoff last year I think. He went something like -7 on his last 7 holes to get into a playoff and then rinsed a wedge on the 1st extra hole in a way that would have made Tommy (and Rory) blush.
    • Tristan, did you end up getting the new Edel wedges?  I'm very about due for new wedges.  I was trying other configurations a few years ago and somehow my 54 and 58 are both hand-me-downs that I never got around to getting as new and fitted, and my last new-as-in-new wedges were Ping Glides a long time ago.  I was thinking of Edel wedges earlier today, although their website seems to list only two fitters.   Did you end up getting them, and if so, what do you think of them?
    • @colin007, in terms of realistic sci-fi, its the best ever. They actually had an astrophysicist consult on the movie to be as accurate as possible with what we know about the universe.  For like dystopian, Blade Runner is probably king. Action/suspense is probably Alien/Aliens. Though Starship Troopers is fantastic. The Matrix is amazing.
    • Day 4 (August 14).  Full swing in my indoor practice room;  6-iron, off a mat, into a net.  Focus was on what I believe was my priority piece at last lesson (which, admittedly, was almost three years ago, due to absence).  I hit about a dozen balls this morning before going into the office.  (Also, errata to yesterday:  9 of the 12 coins were picked up on the second or third go around -- you can't pick up one on the first go around for that drill)
    • Watched The Gentlemen, took a little bit to get into it, but very good Guy Ritchie movie.  Collin Farrell and Hugh Grant were great. Give it a birdie.
