  • I can't play golf I feel like that at least half the time I play
  • I hit 90% of my shots fat I hit alot of thin shots
  • I hit the ground with my driver when swinging Haven't been doing it lately, but I used to drop-kick 3-4 drives a round
  • I hit my PW 110 yards Same here
  • I can hit my driver 240 yards, but usually 190 and sky-high Getting better in this department but I can relate
  • I hit my 7i 150 yards Same here
  • I finish on my toes and fall forward I fall backwards onto my heels alot
  • I chunk when chipping I choose to skull the ball
  • I shoot in the 90s So do I about 1/3 of the time
  • I have fun when playing, but want to quit after most rounds or practices Half the time I want to quit, and the other times I have delusions of grandeur
  • I swing too long, too hard, too fast I swing like an old man sometimes
  • I've once broken 90 I'm happy anytime I break 90
  • I think I know more about the swing than I really do I've figured out the golf swing at least 20 times, only to forget it
  • I've gotten rid of my slice, only to exchange it for a hook I am jealous you have a one-way miss
  • I lack most swing fundamentals They are overrated IMO
  • I try to hit the ball Me too
  • I lose balls all the time I have played several rounds where I ran out of balls
  • I'm not a good short game player, or putter, it just seems so because my long game stinks I know I'm playing bad when I have a 30-ft chip from the fringe, run it 30-ft past the hole but keep it on the green, and my playing partners say "nice shot"

A few more to add:

1) My practice swings are just as bad as when I'm hitting the ball. 2) On long par-3s (over 180) I would say I have about a 10% chance of hitting the green. 3) My putting can be so bad, I am not even remotely surprised when I miss 3-footers. 4) My mental game is so weak I have had meltdowns on the first hole and never recovered. 5) I have never worked so hard at something in my life and still felt like I had no clue what I was doing.

I supose at 99.9 handicap you would

Perhaps "Confessions of a duffer" is more appropriate, most who have replied have handicaps that appear to be better than the definition of a hacker.

Too true on the minigunning at the range post. I'm definitely that guy. Started getting to the point where I was fairly consistently shooting in the lower 90's and then breaking 90 a few times, and then the last couple of rounds were terrible, high 90's and then a 101. Playing conditions were terrible, but it was still pretty dejecting.

Oh well, I still love golf.

Hacker is probably the wrong term, but I really felt like one after last nights practice. I can testify on the minigunning. The more frustrated I get, the more balls I hit and the worse are my results. A good player will take a break and start over again.

One 7i went 115 yards, the next 160. Go figure...

Yet you choose to play irons that punish your mis-hits. I don't understand but to each there own. Who am I to say, I can only play well about half the time.

How are you a 16.5 handicap, that would imply that you have some sort of game, can hit shots, putt etc. With that handicap you should be shooting in the 80's. Im lucky to break 100 and yes I do many of the things you describe but im not claiming a higher handicap than i have. Im a work in progress that will never be fully completed, anxious to go play this year but weather is not cooperating, cold, snow, cold and snow, etc.

Get a lot shots on the courses I play. Par 72 + 16 + 6 = 94.

Also play a par 63 course, where I of course shoot below 90.

The 99.9 is a joke to imply that I'm a beginner. I am waiting til I can consistently shoot under 100 before keeping track of a handicap.

I knew that because HI of 99.9 doesn't exist if I am correct

    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.

    • Day 32 (12 Dec 25) - What was the Friday shootout became a practice round due to lack of enough players (temps kept a lot of the regulars home).  Used it to dial in some playing distances as I played back a set of tees to force alternate club selections.  Plenty of long approaches - every club was put into action thru the course is 18 holes. Was not a GiR day but rather nGIR (5 up and down pars).  Pin placement was tough - the smallest miss would see the ball roll just as far past or even off the green.  Was a great day of battling what the course was dealing. Overall - I finished 5 strokes over my average score of 86.
