Why do you play a 2H/5W?

I've searched the forum for some threads on this but couldn't find the answers I was looking for.
I'm looking into buying a 2H or a 5W in the upcoming months but I'm not sure which one to go for. Since I'm a lefty and live in Norway I have a really limited amount of options I am most likely going to purchase a Titleist 909F2 18.5* or a Titleist 909H 17/19* (they have the first demo day of the season, I would have to wait for the summer for Ping or TaylorMade).
My questions are: Why do you play a 2H or a 5W?
I guess I would sometimes use this club off the tee if I'm hitting my driver and 3w poorly. Most of the time I'll use it to reach a par 5 in two or on a long par 3.
If I went for the hybrid, would you suggest a 17 or 19? I think I could use the 19* more because i don't want a huge distance gap between this club and my 21* 3 iron.

I use my 5 wood or 3hy quite a bit. I'm not a long hitter, though - only average about 225 or so with my driver. So I end up using my 5wood/3hy for approach shots on long par 4s, short par 5s (if my 3wood is too much), and on long par 3s.

Since I got my 3hy, I tend to use that more than the 5 wood (more versitile). So...again....I use it alot since I'm not a long driver. I hit my 5 wood/3hy about 185-200ish.

I love my 5W. I use it off the tee, fairway and in rough. I also have a 3H and 4H, but I find the 5w is more versitile because it is also good off the tee. A 3H would be a good choice to complement the 5w.

I would tend toward the 5W over the 2H myself. I had both a Nickent 3H and a 2H and the 2H just never seemed to sit as well with me as the 3H, so I've instead opted for my setup below. Depending on the course I'm playing, I will sometimes drop the 60* and add in my Tour Edge Exotics 16.5* 4-wood.

It would probably depend on how far you hit the ball. On drives, I carry the ball about 230 yds. I can hit my 5W about 195 yds. (less with fade, more with draw). I hit the 5W really well, and need the distance. I tried a 3H last spring, but missed too many shots and bought the 5W.

You probably hit the ball a lot longer than I do, so a 2H or a 3H instead of 5W might work.

OR, you might consider the RM Raylor. The boat-hull head design really cuts down on sole surface contact with turf, making it a reliable club out of the rough. Raylor comes in 19* and 22*. Also, it has a longer shaft than most hybrids.

I won a TM 3h mid in a raffel 2 yrs ago and fell in love with it. It was about the same a 7 wood I had and I'm now playing the 3h. I like it so much that I got a TM TP 2h mid and 4h mid this year. Both were for particular holes on my home course. The 2h for tee shots into a LH dogleg and the 4h for a 186 yd Par3. I like the 2h so much I'm thinking of leaving my 3 wood at home. The 2h is about 15-20 yds les than the 3 wood but I have a much better chance of hitting it straight and on my home course I don't really need the distance except on one par 5, and good drive (I wish) takes that out.

I play both. Pending how i'm hitting on the range with either one will determine what i use in the round. I have a callaway warbird 5w that i can't bear to part with and it's my confident club when the hybrid is on the fritz. personal preference i think...best of luck

I carry a 5 wood instead of a 3 wood because I find it easier to hit. I like the difference in distance between it and my Driver, about 40 yards, which gives me flexibility off the tee. It's a low profile club so it's easy to hit off the deck, and more forgiving than a hybrid.

I canned the 5W for the 2h. Reason, the 2h is much more versatile than the 5W, it plays much better from the rough, easier to hit from fairway bunkers, much more workable, ball gets in the air higher and faster, easier to swing with the shorter shaft, and finally, for example, off the tee (just today) I hit my 2h 242yds (measured on skycaddie) with a nice draw into a lefthand dogleg. Need I say more about why I like it! I can hit this club when I can't hit my driver. Also confidence is everything, and it's nice to know I have a long club in the bag that I cna always make good contact with.
BTW, my avg. with the 5W was 220 +/- and not very consistent.
I used to hate hybrids, and one day they just started working for me. Now I wouldn't play without them. I don't think I would go to a 1h in place of my 3w, although I'm sure it would play; I just feel some things are sacred and shouldn't be messed with. I have really considered tinkering with a high loft hybrid (7h or 8h) just to see what you can do with one, but it would be some time before I would definately add one of those to a tournament bag.
Pick up a decent used 2 hybrid for $30 or so and play it for a while, I beleive you could get a better idea of the clubs usefullness and versatility.

I just got an Adams A7 2H, and my conclusion after two rounds is that it's unbelievable.

Six months ago, I took up the game again after a 16-year hiatus (the equipment choices alone have been overwhelming), so I'm basically relearning how to swing a golf club. I've spent 90% of my range time hitting irons, with the result that my woods are still all over the place. Since I'm really long off the tee, poor driving (with the 1W and 3W) equals LOTS of penalties. So, I asked my instructor if a 2H might be a good driving alternative while I'm working on straightening out my woods. He agreed, and I got fitted for a 2H. It was a toss-up between the Adams and TM Raylor--the Adams is probably better off the tee and the Raylor better from the rough, so I went with the Adams.

It's probably because I don't regularly hit the sweet spot with my 3W, but that Adams 2H is as long or longer than my Cleveland Launcher 3W. It's equally as good from the fairway--haven't hit it out of the rough yet, but that's not what I bought it for. It's so straight and so long, it almost makes me want to leave my driver and 3W in the bag forever.

I don't hit the ball very far: my driver is about 250 yards and my 3 wood goes 230 then I have gaps of 10 yards from my 3-iron (210) to my PW (130). I'm about to upgrade all my woods so my distance will certainly improve...I remember hitting the R9 280 yards when I hit it (out on the range with Trackman, not in an indoor simulator).

I would love to try all the clubs you guys mentioned but I don't really have the chance because the pro-shop at my GC has to order the clubs for me and after that I can't refuse to buy it, so the only chance I have to hit them are demo-days.

I have both and swap then around depending on the course.
