I am in need of new irons. I had my first foray with forged iron last weekend and will NEVER go back to cast. I tried out the Mizzy MX-300's and really liked them a lot. I am a 13 handicapper looking to get to the single digits. The strong part of my game is making solid iron contact which is why I think I enjoyed the forged clubs so much. I was set to get the MX-300's but then I found a good deal on some MP-57's. They appear a little more 'blade like' but I hear they are still forgiving. Does anyone here have any experience with both clubs? They oth have the DG 300s shaft in them which I was fitted for.

I know the response will be....hit them both and decide for yourself. The fact is...i can't hit the 57's....can't locate them and there are VERY few Mizzy dealers in Maine. So unfortunately trying the 57's is not possible......

Any advice you can offer would be great!

I have the MP 57s but I have been very impressed with the MX 300s. If you can hit the MX 300s and like them, I would go in that direction. They are a GI club, but they aren't huge and clunky.

I found a review of the mp57 from sandtrap below:

I would improvise by going to your local golf store and trying hitting anything that resembles a mp 57 even hitting a blade. This will help confirm that you can actually hit them.

I jumped into my mp33 blades after buying the mp30 and have not looked back. One thing that made me buy the blades was the price. I got a good deal for the mp33s for $250, also, just remember that you can play your the blades from PW - 8 irons and play your Taylor Made LCG irons on your mid to longer irons.

I would lean towards the mp57s and just the fact that you are considering the mp57, I believe deep down inside you want to purchase the mp57s and grow into them. Believe me, blades or mp57s are easier to hit then you think, I have played my best round of golf and lowered my handicap with the mp33s. I must disclosure that I play at least once a week and sometime twice and understand my swing and always have been working on my swing for 24 years of playing.

In summary take the acid test and test drive the blade like club similar to the mp57s at your local store and let us know what you decide

First, there are tons of Mizuno fans on this site, myself included. I switched to the MP-57s when I was in the mid-20s handicap-wise (and, I guess, age-wise, now that I think of it). If you're a good iron striker, you'll do fine with these.

Also, since you're ordering not-off-the-rack, you don't have to go all in one or the other. Brian Gay, for example, won at Hilton Head with a mix of MX and MP irons in his bag. Link about Brian Gay's bag: http://blogs.golf.com/equipment/2009...ing-clubs.html

The 57's are not going much if at all harder to hit. Being that they are a players cavity they will be alot more accurate than a forged GI iron, which will get you to your goal faster and will be better in the long run.

I've been using MX 25's for over 3 years now. The MX-300's look to be an updated version of my 25's and I really like them. But lately I've been considering some new Game Enhancement Mizuno's myself.
Not sure your Golf game or trouble area's, but if Irons are one of the stronger area's, I think the 57's might be a slightly better choice. If you tend to toe or heel it, then the 300's will help you out a bit more.

    • Day 27 - 2026-01-16 Played 18 with some of the usual "too many voices" going on when I'm working on swing stuff. Fun to get out in great bay area winter weather.
    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
    • No one in the world is as smart as Phil thinks he is.
    • Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.
