Today was my second time playing golf this season. First round I had trouble locating my drives and my irons were not that great, I shot a 41 on 9 (par 36). Today I shot a 38 on 9 (par 36). I had an eagle attempt and five birdie putts and I missed all of them except one. I three putted five times and it is really frustrating because I would of shot under. Does anyone know any drills that I can practice inside a house or even at a practice green? I was missing putts that were only like 3 feet away to putts that were like 20 feet. I started putting better towards the end of the round, by just moving my shoulders and tried to not put extra force on the follow through. If anyone has any great suggestions, I would really appreciate it. It is my second year golfing and I finally want to shoot under par. Thanks

I really enjoyed Stan Utley's chapter on putting in his newest book Art of Scoring . Check it out at Barnes and Noble if you find yourself browsing there. I know a lot of people on these boards really enjoyed that book.

First let me say I'm way friggin jealous of your tee to green game. Be glad that your problem is the putting because IMO it's the easiest thing to get good at with mucho practice.

If you can take advice from a 20 handicap who averages 1.9 putts per hole....

It sounds like you are having speed trouble. This video by shawn clement helped me a ton. Especially from 5:15 to the end of the video.

widen your stance to get a more stable base....think pendulum...same distance on the back swing as follow through...longer the putt, the longer the backswing/follow (my current putting average is 1.63/hole)

Thank you for the suggestions, I will take a look. I have one of those at home putting greens that returns the ball back to you, do you think that is a waste of time or no? Also, do you guys do straight back and forward or arc putting?

I favor an arc because it doesn't require an unatural manipulation of the wrists and arms like SBST does. Plus blade type putters are more suited to an arc stroke and imo, they provide much more feel and touch than faced-balanced, high-MOI mallets.
