I was hoping to get solace amongst the masses. Thought i was in great control of my game this month, posting two 85's in my weekly rounds, which could have been close to 79's (i've yet to ever break 80) if not for a few stupid holes. Tuesday I go out & fire a lovely 104. No aspect of my game worked. All at the same course & tees btw, and although the weather was a bit colder & windier this week i would be lying if i thought it was the conditions. My index usually hovers in the 14-15 range, so i definitely will shoot low-mid 90's often enough, but the century mark?

So has anyone else shot 19 strokes worse the week after a good round, or am i the "winner" (or loser i guess!).

I feel like yo-yo scores are pretty standard with this game. Don't let it bring you down.

Being that this is the season of Lent, your 104 score might be a Divine Intervention to teach you about humility.

Go to church on Easter Sunday, and you should have a fruitful golf season.

Biggest yo-yo gap for me recently was 73 one day and 86 the next, and this occurred during my club championship last summer.

Read this earlier today actually, but can't remember who said it...
1 bad round - forget about it
2 bad rounds - hit the range
3 bad rounds - get a lesson

Played in a friend's member guest tourney years ago. Shot a 79, the only time I have broken 80 in my life in the practice round. (a lot of money was bet on our team after word got out about my round) then followed up with a 98 the next day and first day of the tournament! LOL (serious it was not nerves either, just one of those days when NOTHING worked)

Yesterday, after 7 holes I actually walked off the course. 1st 2 holes I hit the ball pretty good ... 2 over which is good for me ...
By the 6th hole, I was shanking or topping most every iron shot. Just said "to heck with it" and walked off after hitting my 2nd attempt at an approach to a short par 4 ..
Hopefully the weekend round will go better, but I need to get this nasty taste out my mouth first!!

As a new golfer, not saying by any means that you are new, this is something that just comes with the game. Being new, I'm also in my head a lot... and when one thing isn't working, if I let it bother me, that means everything else is going to stop working to. Unfortunately, for those of us that aren't getting paid millions of dollars to do this every weekend on tv bad days will happen. Honestly, that is why I love golf, because it's about fixing your problems and finding the consistency, it's a constant challenge. You just gotta go back out there, figure out what was going wrong and don't let it happen again. Everybody has a bad round, it's how you come back from that round that shows what kind of golfer you are...

maybe I'm wrong, just a thought.

I'm just happy to be on the course again! right?!

I once won a tropy with the following stamped on it:

"High Net Winner".

I still to this day have no recollection what my 2 day score was, but I do remember closing with a 38 on the final 9. That probably kept me from stepping into traffic. The rest of the golf that summer was surprisingly steady.

Yes mate happens to us all, was shooting 89/86/87/89/92 on my home course then went out and hit so bad last Sat that I only had 9 points Stableford off 17 handicaqp (par 70) for the front 9 (53 strokes) I blobbed so many holes it became a joke scoring so I ripped my card up (not in a club comp) and tried to focus on why all I could do is drive and my irons and short game had gone to shit :(
I ended up finsihing ok after calming down and made a few bogies on the back 9 and a par on the 18th (49 strokes) so a total of 102 with around 15 Stableford points :)

I can smile about it now but boy I was not happy and one grumpy mutha last Sat.

I am trying to get it in my head that it happens every now and then and will always happen as I play only once a week (weather permitting) and maybee get to the range once a week so I cannot expect to keep my game on fire, as an example last summer I had the shanks for a round and shot 103 on a par 69 :)

I am starting to accept that a score over 100 will happen every few months but as long as a few mid 80's are in the mix :)

About 20 years ago I played the most erratic tournament of my life. Carrying a 10 handicap I began the 72 hole Club Championship with a first round 104 (12 on the par 5 6th hole and 10 on the par 4 7th left me out of the 4 day event in 7 holes) and a second round 88. The next weekend in the 3rd and 4th rounds I shot 74-78. That's a 30 stroke swing from the 1st to the 3rd round. Never have figured out what happened to cause that first round disaster. I simply could not hit a shot. Nothing from driver to putter worked right that day.

With my handicap, I have some really bad days when nothing goes right. I know they're coming by the end of the 3rd hole on my usual course, so if it looks like it's going to be one of those days, I throw my scorecard in the trash and start hitting more than one ball and try to figure things out and go into practice mode. Works really well for bringing me back in focus, especially if it's been a while since I've played.

I've been shooting low nineties since new year in all sorts of weather, then when it's finally brightened up my last three rounds have been 105, 104 and 102. Haven't been able to hit an iron for toffee the last couple of weeks out on the course (at the range I'm like Tiger - which is really useful ). Nice to know that I'm not the only one suffering!

Playing again at the weekend, so hopefully I can banish those woes...
