How frequently do you regrip your clubs and what key signs that it is time for regripping?

Posted
i haven't regripped my clubs yet because i used my old irons for a year and got the new ones about 4 months ago. i think at the end of the season i will regrip all the irons and wedges.
i think you're able to look at a grip and tell whether it's worn out or not but i'm not sure.

When the grip is worn out. Depends on how hard you grip it, how much you play, the type of grips etc. I change whenever I feel it to be necessary. I have a couple of brand new, unused grips lying around that I use for reference. If I don't have anything to compare them with, it's difficult to feel when they are ripe for a change.

I'd also suggest, if you're doing a whole set regrip, that you regrip ONE club first in the middle of your set (6/7iron) and test it on the range for a week or so.

I suggest this because I went to a Winn AVS grip that was awesome until I realized the softness and tackyness of it would be really rough on my hands. I can't wait until they wear out so I can put a more conventional grip on my clubs. Probably going to go oversize on the next round too...I pretty much NEED it, and it'd make it easier to choke down on the club.

I've re-gripped certain clubs just because I wanted a certain grip but not because it needed it, until now. I've had my Irons 3 years and they are due. They have gotten a little hard and smooth and the scuffing up is no longer working.

I've been told once a year if you play a lot. I honestly dont know. I did regrip my driver and woods this winter, but that was because I have huge hands, and needed to change out the ping white grips for ping orange. I do love the the orange sized grips from ping better than anything i've tried at the pro shop yet. I think I would use them on any brand club I bought!

As others have said...it depends on a few different things. I always play Golf Pride Wrap grips. I bought a set of used Titleist DCI 962s in 2000 and gamed them until last summer. 9 years. In that time I never regripped. Granted, I didn't play that often in from 2000-2003 (in college), but even when I played fairly regularly I never felt the need to regrip. Infact, I've never even cleaned them up!

While they've never felt all that "tacky" or sticky, I've never felt like my hands slipped all that much either.

When I got new clubs last year, I put on the same Golf Pride Wrap grips. I can't tell the difference between my "new" grips and the 10 year old grips on my DCIs.

What I Play:
