Hello guys, today i wanted to ask if you guys change stock grips. I have the victory red split cavity irons. They come with the victory red grips which are pretty good for stock grips. But i wanted some info should i change them i want to go with golf pride grips. I was wondering do you like a softer grip on irons or a harder grip also with wedges soft or hard.
thanks

I know what grips I like, and I know what I don't like. My only rule with grips is that I won't put something I don't like on a club. I once had 5 or 6 different styles on my clubs so I could narrow down my favorites. I don't have a preference with different clubs...other than driver and 3-wood. I have a certain style I put on them. I would put them on all my clubs, but it is a discontinued style and I have less than 10 left I think. I am going to regrip in the next month or so and will have at least 4 different styles since I want to try out a few new ones.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I prefer a firmer grip on all of my clubs. I play Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cords. The grip is your only connection to the golf club (obviously), so go with what feels right in your hands.

It's totally a preference thing. I prefer a little squish to my grips, so I went with the Winn DSI AVS V17 Midsize. I really like 'em but they wear pretty fast. Something that isn't preference is size. If the stock grip is too small (usually the case) or too big (rarely), get them swapped out as soon as affordable.

Go to a golf store and fondle the wares. Find one you like and have them put that grip on one of your clubs. Give it a test drive to see if you like it. If you don't, you're only out five or ten bucks.

Whoever came up with the saying, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work", is a moron.

For what it's worth, the Nike VR grip is made by Golf Pride. So no switch is necessary just to get Golf Pride grips on your clubs. Not that my experience means much since I'm a novice at the game and on my first set of clubs, but I actually ended up changing the grips on my woods since I was having trouble with the abrasive feel of the stock grip. I considered other grips, but couldn't find any other that actually drew a line down the centerline like on the Nike VR grip. I kind of like having that visual reference. And I like how the Nike VR grip feels. (Again, not much experience to draw on, though.) So I asked my sales guy whether he could get me some Nike VR grips for my woods. He called up the Nike rep, who told him they'd send out some Nike VR grips for $4 each. I like the feel of my woods a lot better since the switch.

I have always been a Golf Pride corded wrap player. I had a custom set of X22 Tours set up with them. But when I went to have my new wedges, woods, HB re gripped to the same, the place I went to have it done did not have them in stock. But they did have the Golf Pride New Decade Multicompound. I love them and am going to have all my clubs re gripped with them. I first went with the blue as it seemed to me the lighter colors would be a distraction. I have found not that to be a problem at all and my newest wedges are black with red. Awesome!

I have noticed a lot of tour players are adopting them too.

If you change, please don't overlook the importance of grip size. Measure your hands and know what you need.

Usually when I buy irons, I'm able to spec which grips I want on them. If I buy used, I always change the grips. I like all my clubs from 60' to Driver to have the same grip, and the same number of wraps underneath the grip... for me that Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cord with 2 wraps (or plus one if you include the first tape layer :) )

I prefer firmer grips on my irons and wedges, softer with my woods. I use the GP duel compounds on my irons but the regular tour velvet on my driver and 3 wood.

I like the same grip on each club. I like the constant feel because my swing doesn't change from club to club, only the attack angle due to the length in club.

I like Golf Pride Tour Velvet, great grip for the price.

I go with the Golf Pride Patriot grips. They're comfortable, durable, good in all weather conditions, but best of all, a portion of each grip sale goes to the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Can someone elaborate on what grip goes for what hand size? Also, from where to where do I measure my hands?

Go to your local golf store, they should have golf grips shafted that you can check out. Take your normal trip, on your left hand, the fingers should barely touch the base of your thumb. If the fingers are digging in then its to small, if there is a large gap, then its to large. A large grip will cause it hard to square the fact at impact, a smaller grip will cause the club to close to soon. If you find that one size is to large and the next one down is a bit to small. Then have the golf shop, or yourself put one or two layers of build up tape before gripping the club, this will scale it to an inbetween size.

Thanks for the help. I guess I made a good guess on my grips when I bought them since my fingers barely touch my thumb.
