Forged Irons Life Expectancy?

... I am basically wondering how long they (forged) will last compared to a 'regular' club? I average about 36 holes a week and live in Maine so it's a shorter season. ...

Exactly 13 seasons 4 rounds and 6 holes ... at which time the head on your 5 iron flys off during your tee shot and lands in a pond in the adjucent fairway ... but you don't care because you make a hole in one off that fluke shot ... unfortunately between buying rounds for everyone in the clubhouse and celebrating you somehow don't make it home with your golf bag and never see your 57s or wedges again ... even more strangely your bag with the Taylormades and Odyssey are turned in to the pro shop ... weird ... maybe because the woods and putter had head covers

I don't own forged irons personally, but my friend has some Mizuno MP67s. He doesn't take much care of them - he's a bit of a 'club ho' :D

When is the last time you saw a touring pro with iron covers? Their clubs get banged up a million times more than ours do.

What about storing forged irons? Right now I have no choice but to keep them in a garage. It's rainy and damp weather here lately. How will affect my Mizuno MX-200s? Also, I would have them, in the bag, in the garage over the winter. Is this ok? Or should I put them in storage I will be renting for my books, CDs/DVDs, etc?

I've had forged irons a couple of seasons now and don't think they look beat up at all. I expected it to be worse. It's mostly inside the back of the club, which I rarely look at anyways. I'd rather try keeping the sole of the club nice, but most important is of course the face of it. As long as I can look down at the club and not see any scratches or bumps on the face, it doesn't really matter how they look on the bottom or back. Clubs are meant to be used and get banged up.

Alohaed: It can work fine, but I would not recommend it. Don't you have a closet or something with room for 7 clubs?

I think I may prove EVERYONE on this thread wrong. My forged irons (MP52's) may not make it 3 rounds. If I hit them the way I did the first two times out, I am going to shove them up *&^%$*%*(^!!!

Forged irons should last plenty long, but as stated numerous times you've got to take a bit better care of them in comparison to cast clubs. The face of my blades looks great, even on the wedge and 8 irons which i hit more often that the rest. I take precautions against hitting sandy or dirty balls, and will clean the clubface when at the range more often than I do with a cast club.

The feel is very well worth the effort though... and the bag chatter knicks are somewhat satisfying in the sense that I the more beat up the backs of my blades are, the more golf I am playing.

What i was told is that they would last a long time good 10 years, BUT only if you look after them! clean them regularly, and get the loft and lies checked every year! because they are made out of a weaker metal and cast irons.

Bottom line is if you wan't you clubs to look nice and not like some hack..then get iron covers and who cares what other people think.!! I have 2 different set of forged clubs one almost 20yrs old and the other about 9yrs old and they both look awesome..!! I'll put money on it either look better than a guy who just got new forged clubs last year and doesn't use covers..!! And for the guys that wear jeans..big whoop you can beat the "pretty boys" you still look like a d-bag wearing jeans to the course, have some integrity and respect for the game..!!

Can you post a picture of the 20 year old blades? I think my 19 year old blades look good, but maybe I have low standards.

Thanks, yea my Dad took very good care of them as do I..always covers on them wiped after evey shot and washed about every 3 rounds. I had to sandblast the faces of the Ram's once, but that it.

I think you can take your clubs to some place like Golfsmith and use their lie board? I'm not sure, I'm curious about this as well. When I pick up my new irons next week I'll ask them about this because I want to get a regrip done every year, why not get the lie checked as well?
