Well so far I've seen 100% Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, and tonight I'll be watching Thunderball. I would like to know what 007 movies you guys like?

So far I like Goldfinger the most, it has alot of battling and the car is a much larger device.

I've seen all the movies, but I like "Casino Royale" the best... Daniel Craig's a pretty good bond, and it's non-stop action

I would have to agree. Now before anyone says Sean Connery made the old ones better, I think Casino Royale was a fantastic example of the advancement in technology since the 60's. I haven't seen Casino Royale all the way through, but from what I saw, the special effects and acting were up to par.

But having said that, the special effects from the 60's all almost so try-hard, that they make the movie fantastic. The explosions are so unecessary and violently unrealistic that it almost makes the action great.

Given the leaderboard for the Masters and when you saw

Goldfinger , did you react when the titular character mentioned that golf is not yet the national sport of Korea?

I feel that the special effects from

Thunderball really stand up today. They aren't quite first-rate today, but they're much better than what constituted special effects in just about any other film from the 1960s. And it won a meaningful Academy Award: best visual effects. As for my favorite movies in the series, I've wanted to see Daniel Craig as 007 ever since Layer Cake (2004), and I'd rate his two above the original series, with Casino Royale being the better of the two. Within the original series, my three favorites were The Living Daylights , Licence to Kill , and Goldeneye . It's great when they made three fantastic movies in a row. Rounding out my top 5 are Thunderball and For Your Eyes Only . Pierce Brosnan (Bond #5) even married one of the Bond girls from FYEO. I think it's really cool that you're seeing them in order. I saw them in a semi-random order, and didn't understand until much later who Tracy and Felix were, and for the later movies, why they were important. Another great two movies you'll see soon are On Her Majesty's Secret Service , which has Telly Savalas and the gorgeous Diana Rigg (have you seen any of The Avengers ?). Unfortunately, the guy playing Bond isn't very good in that one. But it's followed by Diamonds are Forever , with the plot continuing too - it's a two-parter, but not as closely tied as the two Craig movies. Also strongly suggested: see if you can find the original Ian Fleming novels. I can't say much for the post-Fleming Bond novels, but the originals were quite good. Casino Royale (2006) follows the plot of the 1952 book really well, while still adapting it appropriately for modern day. The only somewhat offsetting part of the books is that some language was acceptable at the time and isn't today, and both Bond and Fleming come off looking poorly for it at some points. Finally: shortly after seeing Thunderball , go check out a spoof of it that has Sean Connery in it called Never Say Never Again . It's not as over-the-top of a spoof as Austin Powers ; in fact, some people watch it without realizing it's any different from a cheezy Bond film, such as most of Roger Moore's era. But it's got some parts that are really funny if you recognize that they're taking off parts of Thunderball .

I also agree. The producers/writers wisely steered Bond to be a dark, troubled, vulnerable loner and Craig pulls it off great. Most of the scenes have great physical almost-believeable action that doesn't rely on over-the-top CGI. The

Parkour -style scene where Bond chases the bomb maker through Madagascar is an example. The only part of the film that I think too much time was spent on was the card playing. Quantum of Solace was a very good sequel. I look forward to more Craig/Bond films. ps: The Layer Cake is one of my favorites.

+1 for Casino Royale. Daniel Craig is hands down the best Bond since Connery.

Well so far I've seen 100% Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, and tonight I'll be watching Thunderball. I would like to know what 007 movies you guys like?

I'm a huge fan of John Barry and David Arnold, so I watch all the movies about every 5 years. For me, by far, the best of the Bond films were the two that starred Timothy Dalton. Dalton was the only actor to have played Bond who actually had a good working knowledge of all the books, and routinely would use the books on set to point out to the director why he thought Flemming's Bond would have done it a certain way. Flemming actually disliked Connery as bond at first, and nearly had a fit that his character was going to be Scottish. Dalton, however, captured the character in all his dark and menacing original.

Despite this, many Bond critics would point out, somewhat interestingly (and I agree with them), that the best movie was actually On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Now, as to the films, they would get rated by me as follows: Dr. No - 7 of 10, early, a little slow, but sound. A good start to the series. Lest action oriented film of the bunch, but most plot oriented. Introduced many of the idioms of the series. From Russia With Love - 6 of 10, not as strong of a story, but a decent action film. Famous chopper scene, and boat chase. Goldfinger - 9 of 10, one of the best films ever made, and it was the first Bond movie to really get the ball rolling on what a Bond movie would be in the future. Also introduced the musical style which would continue onward. Thunderball - 8 of 10, one of the finest, it was huge when it came out. It is the only Bond film made twice in any official capacity (see below). You Only Live Twice - 8 of 10, one of John Barry's finest scores, and a great movie. This one really cashed in on the space race, and marked the first true appearance of Blofeld. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - 10 of 10, the most idiomatic Bond film ever, perhaps, and the only one Directed by longtime editor Peter Hunt. It's also the only movie where Bond fails at the end. A lot of things about it are unique, including the only Aussie Bond, George Lazenby. Diamonds are Forever - 7 of 10, weak story, but great movie none the less. Connery's last 'official' Bond film. Car chase is legendary, and marks the first time Bond drove an American car. It's considered the "American" Bond movie. Live and Let Die - 9 of 10, a very good Bond film, and interestingly is absent of Q (Desmond Llewellyn). Introduced Roger Moore as bond. Theme song remains one of the most well known, and the boat chase scene is legendary. Also famous for the reoccurring sheriff, J. W. Pepper. The Man With The Golden Gun - 10 of 10, one of the most famous and best ever. The only Bond girl to appear twice is Maud Adams, who was in this and Octo•••••. Famous for the first ever computer aided stunt scene in a movie, the car jump, with Bond and J.W. Pepper jumping an AMC pacer over a Thai canal. The Spy Who Loved Me - 6 of 10, fairly weak, but decent. Theme song (Nobody Does it Better) is the first to not be named after the film. Despite having some great scenes, it falls fairly flat for a Bond film. Moonraker - 3 of 10, one of the worst, almost entirely trying to emulate Star Wars, but not nearly as good. The 3rd (and last) time Shirley Bassy sung the theme song (previously did Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever). For Your Eyes Only - 9 of 10, first John Glen directed bond film (first of 5 in a row), and one of the best. Famous theme song, great scenes, totally altogether great movie. Has pretty much everything. Also, this is the one with the famous intro where Bond finally kills Blofeld. *Never Say Never - 6 of 10, Sean Connery returns for a remake of Thunderball, rewritten by one of the original co-writers. Not an official Bond film, but decent enough. Octo••••• - 6 of 10, Maud Adams returns, but despite that, and being one of the best themes (All Time High, one of just 3 themes to never contain the film's title), it wasn't the greatest of movies. It's jungle chase scene, however, very similar to some scenes in Temple of Doom, is a classic. A View To A Kill - 5 of 10, good, but not great. Only Bond song to ever go to #1, by Duran Duran. A lot of famous scenes, including the fire truck chase, and the Golden Gate bridge scene. Also, Walken. Not bad, overall, and some great moments, but just not really great. The Living Daylights - 10 of 10, one of the best of them all, start to finish. Very dark, and very good, it was also the last (until Casino Royale) to use a Flemming title. Lat Bond film with music by John Barry (who would later go on to do Dances with Wolves and win another Oscar). License to Kill - 9 of 10, another dark one, and substantially violent in comparison to some others. Last film to feature titles by Maurice Binder (who died shortly after). Famous truck chase is one of the best in a Bond film. GoldenEye - 6 of 10, not bad, but made after a 7 year absence of Bond due to legal reasons. Probably as famous for its video game version. Tomorrow Never Dies - 3 of 10, pretty poor movie. Despite a great theme song, it lacked a lot of the usual greatness of Bond films. The World is Not Enough - 4 of 10, a little better, a few memorable scenes. A way for Desmond Llewellyn to end his career as Q (he died in a car accident after the film was made), but a good exit scene that ended his career nicely. Die Another Day - 1 of 10, pitiful, and a Terrible Madonna theme song, terrible, horrible over the top actions scenes that were about as believable as the Easter bunny. This was the pathetic, steaming pile of the series. Casino Royale - 9 of 10, a return to the glory of Bond movies, this one was far and away better than the last few, leaving the off the wall insane, and totally uninspired overdone techno BS for a more real feel, this one brought the series back to live. Quantum of Solice - 3 of 10, pretty poor, although some decent parts, the whole story was a bit flat, and the movie was more or less too much action, and no real plot. Hopefully, the next one will be better.

Any of the sean connery ones. I liked for your eyes only too. I never got into the newer ones, they're too testosterone laden.

Without quoting the entire thing, I will agree with about 95% of "Shanks'" ratings. Pretty much mirrors my thoughts on each movie. Some good, some great, some not so good, none were truly awful movies. My rating system on these is pretty much the watch factor. If I am bored, with nothing to do and nothing else to watch, and needed to kill 2 hours, these are my top 5 in no particular order that I would watch.

Goldfinger
Live and Let Die - Jane Seymore as Solitare = best Bond girl ever
For Your Eyes Only
The Living Daylights
Casino Royale

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I prefer the ones that seem at least remotely reallistic, don't pretend to be comedies, and don't have painful cameos by non-actors. That rules out several Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore flics.

The only guys I could picture actually kicking someone's arse are Connery, Craig and Dalton.

The only guy I could picture shooting someone in the face is Craig. In my opinion he's the best Bond thus far by a mile. Best actor for the role and the most likely successful spy. Casino Royale 2006 was amazing start to finish.

No mention of the original Casino Royale, 1967.

I think the OP is referencing the EON productions 007 movies. The rights for

Casino Royale floated independently of the rest of the series for a while. The first making of it wasn't the (imo, awful - I can't even watch it for half an hour at a time) 1967 version either: it's the 1954 version, made for TV, where it's CIA agent Jimmy Bond and MI6 has Clarence Leiter.

Only 15 holes were open as they repair three holes damaged by Hurricane Helene.    Game continues to decline and handicap continues to increase!
