My Swing (saevel25)

Things have regressed a bit. I need to control the backswing better, keep it shorter and keep the right elbow less bent. I need to stop lowering the hands the bad way.

Got to do better.

Video from yesterday.

Things I like.

1. Backswing length.
2. Posture is much better. This seems to help with backswing length (overturning part).

Things to continue to work on

1. Hinging a bit sooner in the backswing.
2. Hands down better in the downswing. More so right elbow losing flex sooner.

Ok a bit closer 😉

Just working on good posture at set up and making a shorter swing. This one is making what feels like a quarter to half as much shoulder turn. The feeling is more so a duration of the backswing.

Better today.

Feeling less torso turn, and much less hip turn. It’s hard to describe what the hands or club feel when the swing stops. I’ll have to try to figure that out. Maybe it’s more feeling like my left arm stays short of parallel. It’s mostly feels like the right arm does less, and the hands stop before A3.

Trying to keep the swing shorter. Need to feel the swing stopping better. It still goes further than my intent.

Feels like the backswing turn is like half as much and the I try to feel my hands stop at A2.5.

That's too far above your head.

Should be farther back, so it can stop it a bit sooner.

Oh, I didn’t have the alignment stick in for that most recent one. 😇 Yea, I will be mindful of that.

Just wanted to take some notes after todays 9 holes.

1. I’ve been rehearsing just what the arms do in the swing, to feel how little they move in the backswing. I will take them to the top of the swing. Then, I will keep them there, and undo my turn and stand up straight. This puts the arms where they would be with out turning. I then bend over to the address position, and then lower the club to address and back up. I’ll then add in a turn to blend it together.

2. On swings where I do the hands down better. I feel my right shoulder stay higher as my hands get lower. My shoulders feel like they turn on a shallower/flatter plane. I get the better hip turn as well. Much more compact feeling turn, less lateral shift towards the target.

3. I’ll have to work on clubface control. With the longer clubs, it has a tendency to stay too open at impact. Lots of push cuts.

Maybe a good sign is when I hit the driver off the toe. It didn’t snap hook like I thought it would. It’s was a push draw that ended up curving to 10 yards left of my target line.

Might be out for a short amount of time. Woke up this morning and my left side of my neck seized up. I lost nearly all my range of motion turning my head left. Level of pain was like an 7 out of 10 probably.

Went to my chiropractor and got some range of motion back and the level of pain is like a 3 or 4. It’s more tight now, but range of motion is probably at 50-60%

Played 9 holes today. For the first few swings, the neck is still a bit resistant, but no significant pain.

Overall, lots of rust for not hitting balls the past 5 days or so. Got back to hitting some decent shots. The current feels for the course are, nail a shorter backswing, and then arms down as the shoulders stay more level (right shoulder higher) turning through. I do not want my first move in the downswing to be dropping the hands using my right elbow and shoulder. I want it to be with my hands and extending the right arm.

Current iteration of the swing.

1) Keep swing shorter. For what feels like a full swing here, it's WAY shorter than it use to be. Some progress.
2) Keep focus on ball. I am shocked the number of times I just stop focusing on the ball or let my eyes drift during the backswing. It's like trying to keep the ball in sharp focus.

Just a side note on the short game. I need to figure out why I keep hitting all my pitch shots towards the toe. When I try to hit it in the center, I just push the ball way right.

Ok, went back to trying to keep it way shorter. So, much less turn and hands stop at like A2.5.

Feels for this swing.

  1. Focus on backswing length. Still feeling of shorter turn and arm position.
  2. Pause at top of backswing. Feels like I pause for eternity, but it’s like a split second.
  3. Keep focus on the golf ball

The pausing feel seems to help a lot.

The pause is weird, for sure. The line between "I don't think I've paused long enough" and "I've been up here for so long I don't even know if I can hit the ball from here" is razor thin.

I'm starting to experiment with keeping a count in my head, like keeping time while playing music.

Yea, when I exaggerated it a bit, the mind was blanking out on what to do.

For me, it isn't keeping track of time. It is like feeling the swing come to a stop and the weight shift stays a big to the right.  To be detailed, it's feeling the body turn stop where I want, and then feel the arms, hands and club stop. Then everything kind of just falls or goes forward together.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
