Okay, so I'm playing my local course today. I had a lesson Friday on correcting my fade / slice off the tee and worked on it on the range Friday and Saturday so today I went out early before the dinner crowd. I was playing the 2nd closest tees because I wasn't swinging full swing and only hitting it about 180, just trying to place the ball in the middle of the fairway. Anyway, I was on the 3rd tee and there was a 4some in front of me. Now, I didn't get anywhere close to hitting on top of them. On the par 3 previously, they were off the green before I hit. On the par 4, they were putting when I hit my first shot and off the green before I hit my second. As I clear the hole and get to the par 5, they had already hit but were at the tee box and waved me through. I thank them and hit my drive right down the middle, hit my second and have 115 to the green. I line up to hit and right as I start my backswing and a ball comes right by. I look back startled and see one of the guy who JUST waved me through was finishing his swing! I was like WTH??? Anyway, I was so pissed, I just picked up and went to the next hole and it took me three holes before I hit a decent shot!!!! Looking back, I would say something given the same situation! But I mean, why wave me through to hit on top of me???

Sounds like a group with a real a**hole in it. Not a lot of things you could do about it though.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

Maybe someone misjudged the distance, or uncorked a career 2nd shot. If they let you play through, you'd figure someone in the foursome had experience/etiquette. They should have yelled "FORE!" though.

I played saturday and we were on a blind dogleg, when a ball landed and rolled to within 5 feet of where one of my playing partners were, obviously they didn't know where we were, or how far... My guess is that this was a career shot and the guy didn't even know what he did. Anyway as my playing partner was in the line of fire he did one of the classiest things i have seen and simply put his tee that was in his pocket in the ground next to the ball to indicate that it got close to us. On the next tee the guy who did it ran up to us and apologized. Cooler heads always prevail. As my playing partner is in his mid 60's he definately has an attitude to learn from, and is setting a good example. I encourrage the OP to be mindful and remember that people don't play golf to hurt others intentionally, though we are all trying to hit a little ball a long way, and sometimes it doesn't go as planned.

I've had this happen before, and what I did was pull out a tee right on the green and drove the ball right back at em, needless to say they didn't drive up on us the rest of the day

There are levels to this IMHO. Not all violations should be dealt with to the same degree. I think more times than not people overreact to this, because they take it as some kind of insult to their manhood or something, than a safety violation. Just what I have witnessed anyway. YMMV

Really? That's about the most childish, immature, and dangerous approach. Interesting to hear it from the guy who claims only to play $275+ courses in order to avoid "idiots" on the course. Apparently that approach doesn't work.....

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW

It's sometimes very hard to judge distances. I know I was playing with my dad 10 years ago and he hit into a single in front of us that was hitting his 2nd shot and we had no idea he could reach him. The guy yelled something and threw the ball back towards us and then went and told the pro shop that we'd hit into him. Needless to say, he looked like a fool. Funny thing was that I knew the guy because the course was private and I worked there (only reason we were playing that course is because I worked there), so he never got much service from me after that outburst.

Never heard of the putting a tee next to the ball. That's a nice approach for the calmer folks. I've never hit it back at folks, but I've thought about it before. On the few occasions that folks have hit into me (I play fast so nobody hits into me unless I'm behind someone), I usually just give the ball a good 10-20 yard kick backwards. Least I can do is make sure they're hitting a 5-iron into the green instead of a 7-iron.

What's in my Sun Mountain C-130 bag:

Did I mention it was a perfect drive and that I was 17 at the time, many many years ago, figured I'd give you this information before your next rant, LOL
