My best friend and his dad would always go golfing a couple of times during the week and it sounded like it would be a good time. So I got my dad to take me golfing when I was 13 and I haven't put down the club since. I didn't get my first handicap til I was a freshman in highschool, and it was probably around a 7.

How did you get into the sport:
A mix of three things which occurred within a year of the summer of 6th grade:
* I started caddieing at a local country club
* A female adult let me play two holes at a 9-hole course during a family picnic
* My brother traded the trashman a tricycle for a mixed bag of golf clubs (1930s to early 1960s makes, all models)

How old were you when you started playing:
Actually started playing during summer of 7th grade. Caddies got to play at 7 a.m. Friday mornings for a couple of years; then the Greens committee decided to say no. My school friends or other caddies and I would take the city bus down to the old Forest Park Golf Course, then ride back home afterward.

How long had you been playing before you got your first H'cap and what was it:
One of the older caddies showed us how to compute our handicaps sometime in early high school. We kept our own; it was hard to cheat because we all played together. All I remember is I shot in the upper-90s most of the time. Got my first central-system HDCP as a backup golfer in junior college (all volunteers - no scholarships).

How did you get into the sport:
Our daughter began playing on her HS golf team, then attained a job a the local golf course. She wanted company on practice (and at that time a ride to the course) so, I figured what the heck, I'll give it a shot.

How old were you when you started playing:
Somewhere in the around 53.

How long had you been playing before you got your first H'cap and what was it:
Don't have an "official" handicap, in fact I never kept any scores until recently and even now I just toss the cards out after the round. I just play for the enjoyment and exercise.

My father started playing a little when I was in highschool, so he scrounged up a few old clubs and I went with him a few times my senior year. I got a beginners set for christmas and messed around with golf for the next few years but didn't get serious until I was out of college. Thats been a couple of years now and it's without a doubt my favorite sport.

I just joined a course last year, and my first handicap was around a 7, I think.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.
    • Day 123 12-13 Rotation and getting to lead side work. Recorded face on. Hit a few foam balls but did plenty of rehearsals today.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
