I'd like to think I have a pretty consistent swing, but for some odd reason my 3 wood off the deck is like a crap shoot. Every other club in my bag I can hit with marked consistency, but my 3 wood is an entirely different story. Usually on mis-hits I know why the ball reacted the way it did and I can correct it on my next shot. The 3 wood, which I can hit around 240 yards when things go well just seems go away from me every so often. I'm talking about low worm burners, shanks, tops, hooks, etc. Maybe I just need to focus on practicing with this club more frequently, but it's starting to get a bit annoying. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what I can do to practice at the range to remedy this problem? What has worked in the past for you? Thanks!

Hit down on the ball, don't try lifting it, ball position a ball or two inside the left foot. Hit it like an iron or hybrid. Only reason why it should be different off the deck would be that when tee'd up you get under it, then you should stop doing that. Tee it so low that you can hit down on the ball without risking getting the entire club under the ball. Weight forward through impact, don't hang back.

Don't play the ball were your driver would be, play it like a long iron.

I'd also suggest using it off the deck only with a good lie and not too much above or below your feet.

id agree with most of the above comments, practice at the range on grass if you can. However, if all fails put a 4iron back in your bag or another hybrid (H2 maybe) to replace the 3 wood altogether.

i couldnt hit my 5 at all, skied the thing all day, eventually binned it to reserve bag & bought a different model with a lower launch angle. Problem gone. Hope you get it sorted one way or another.

. . . Hit it like an iron or hybrid. . . . Tee it so low that you can hit down on the ball without risking getting the entire club under the ball . . . don't hang back.

+1 always use a tee - like the little broken nubs people cast off to the side. Take advantage of being on the teeing ground!
