Overheard at my club dinner last week over several drinks that one quite youngish member had actually stimpmetered his carpet he practise putts on! Apparently he wanted to see how slow his lounge carpet was compared to the greens at Augusta...

Have you seen one? It's not exactly a high tech piece of equipment.

You can get a piece of molding from a home depot or lowes to get an idea. I haven't done it yet.

funny, but yeah, I'd do it. This is just the kind of idea a geek like me needs to see. Surprised they don't have them for sale at the local golf shops anyways.

build your own:

After seeing this thing & how easy it is to make, I might just try to build one LOL

I didn't know what stimped meant until I opened this thread, but I was thinking originally that it was a slang word for divot.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I don't have a stimpmeter, but I do have two very different types of carpet in my house -- upstairs in the our living room we have soft, nice carpet that is very slow (but pretty true and actually I find it helpful to practice on slow, true surfaces).

Downstairs in the rec-room, we have very thin, much harder carpet, which is quite fast. I generally try and change up quite a bit between the two as I think it helps me delevolp some feel for different paced greens.

A added plus to my house is vaulted ceilings -- so I have 3-4 clubs in the hallway closet at all times so I can work on my full swing inside.

I practice putting in my bathtub, trying to lag the ball so it stops before the drain.

Alas, there's a divot in the carpet at the office where I now keep a garbage can to hide it... no I didn't do it... one of my non-golfing co- workers did when I brought in a sand wedge one day, that I got an excellent deal on!

I ordered a Chicken and an Egg on the Internet, to find out which came first... I'll keep you posted!

I mentioned bringing in the roller we rented for the backyard and matting down a section in the hallway to my fiance' and was immediately rejected. Nonethe less I think I will me measuring it soon

My only problem with golf is that I am usually standing too close to the ball............ after I hit it.
