Ok, what would be a good way to work on swing path then? From the video and from other suggestions it seems that my hands are to far inside, they are to far away, i personally think the club is flat as well.

Mid irons, its just inconsistant, i would say the major miss is a pull shot. but at the range the other day they were cuts, probably from being off plane in the backswing causing a slight over the top motion. Theres no confidence in my irons. I can litteraly just ake a 1/3rd swing and slap at the ball with my hands, like hitting a low punch shot and be more confident i can get it close than taking a full shot. As soon as my hands get above my waist all bets are off.

But, back to on plane, i heard responses of my hands being to inside, to flat (my personal opinion) and to far away. I get to far inside and to flat, but what is to far away. Also what would you recommend to get me back on plan. I would guess the hands need to go in the vertical plane more than horizontal if there behind me. But everytime i try this, it just feels like i get no shoulder turn and i have done some hozel rockets with that before. It just feels like everything is disconnected. I swear overnight my swing was put through a meat grinder.

A pull and a cut is the same swing plane unless you are hitting the intentional push cut. I think the issue is your swing plane. I don't think you are too flat by any means.

and i never top my driver

I just talked to one of the more highly regarded golf pro's here in St. Louis on Sunday and he told me an interesting story. He said at a tour event he personally watched Lee Trevino top it off the tee, twice for about a 100 or 150 yard drive! He told me that Trevino never got mad, showed any emotion however he went on to par each of these two holes.

Lee Trevino, a hall of famer and generally regarded as one of the best strikers of any ball that was tee'd up, topped it twice in one day. As shown above you never top your driver.

I topped a driver and two 3-woods in my first round this year. It was gross, but I moved on.

Funny thing is, out of the last 1000 or so drivers and fairway woods I've hit, those were only ones - I've skied a few, but no other "topped" ones. I think saevel25 is overdue for a case of the topsies.

Ok i have toped a few drives in my lifetime, but nothing in recent memory. now i will probably top my first drive. I think the reason i don't top it, i think i play the ball back far in my stance... Does the video show this, i think i am pretty much over my left heart with my driver position, i think i need to be forward.

That's weird... I usually line the ball up beneath my right heart.

You've had yours broken in half too? Good to hear we're all soldiering on - it's inspirational when you think about it.

I am also working on my take away, so bear with some half-baked advise here. With the club half way back (parallel with ground, toe up to slightly closed) your shaft should be along the swing plane, parallel to your target line. I read one instructor describing the position as your hand being approximately above (yet beyond) the balls of your feet, rather than inside by your heels. I would be more concerned with the direction the shaft is pointing though.

Look at your current swing. Half way back your shaft is pointing across the plane and across your target line, into right field. Work on taking the club back to an ideal position, and help build this into muscle memory. As iacas said, the club moves back, then up and in. I think back is the crucial move right now for you. Look up drills on a "one piece takeaway" as well, for food for thought.

Well for me everything is broken. Its gotten to the point i don't even know what my misses will be, the only thing worse would be having some lateral shots comming around, luckily those are not happening.

Well not to pick at you, but look back at all of the posts in this thread and look back at all you have said yourself in this thread and figure out why.

So far you have decided you are: Under plane, hands laid off, ball needs to be more forward, need to shorten the back swing, need to get better tempo, need to not over swing........ I could go on and on and on. As my golf coach has told me, when you have a river that is full of trash you have two options only one of which actually leads to a cleaner river. You can either: A: Frantically try to pick up every piece of trash that comes down the river or B: Head upstream and remove the trash truck dumping shit in the water. So if I were you, I would stop worrying about the symptoms and start looking at the larger problem. Your most immediately problem is your take away is completely fubar. So you can spend less than a week scrapping your take away and learning how to do it properly. Or you can try to figure out why you are too long, bad tempo, too laid off, too sweepy, over the top, and all of the other stuff you have mentioned. I can personally tell you that if you correct your take away your tempo and length of back swing will automatically improve. Bad tempo and over swinging are very often the result of bad fundamentals. Fixing your takeaway is 2 simple moves. Fan your right forearm back until the club is parallel to the target line and then fold your right arm up over your elbow. Maintain your wrists alignments throughout and you should be pretty much on plane at the top. Also unless you decide to try to drag your arms around your head using your right forearm its damn near impossible to take the club back too far. So you can either try to fix all of those things you think are wrong or just stop and start doing those 2 simple things in front of a mirror. Your choice.

Completely agree. Look at the last few pages of posts... some good tips in there. Don't get discouraged, you are about to pimp your swing.

I once topped 4 drivers in a row, all into the water! I was just laughing like a little girl by ball #4. My friend I was playing with was laughing too. No one is perfect, and everyone tops, skies, shanks, and sclaffs drivers.

As my golf coach has told me, when you have a river that is full of trash you have two options only one of which actually leads to a cleaner river. You can either:

This is a brilliant point.

True that, i love the metaphors, your good man. The hinges on the door is a brilliant visual, and so is the river description. :)
