I bought a set of tourstage blades off a friend about 6 months ago, me being off 7 atm... bad idea. My thinking was all about my ego. if you look at urself and think about it, you will work out that nobody 'needs' blades. they just look kool! :)

If you want to start shooting sum lower scores i would get some more thicker clubs. Just my thought

You wanted a "real answer"? I think there were plent given, just perhaps not the one you wanted - something to validate your equipment choices. Since it seems you're not really interested in a move to players irons, why do you care what irons other players use?

Sorry you seem personally offended, Sean. The reality is that MOST, not all, of the answers have revolved around how the club looks. I initially only asked the question as a curiosity because I read that people prefer thin profiles and having never played an iron with a thin profile I didn't know what the big deal was. I wasn't looking for any particular answer, sorry if it seemed that way. It's just that the thread seemed to have devolved into a huge debate that didn't really address the question.

To answer your final question, I guess I don't really care what people play, it's just discussion and this is a discussion forum. I'm not sure what my interest in players irons has to do with anything, since that had nothing to do with the original intent of the post...

How to put this nicely, you hate looking at big clubs, but don't mind looking at big scores? This is why there are "it's a manhood thing" comments.

This is were the thread got off topic from this guys reply, Im all for deleting all the posts that strayed from the original topic. It seems alot of people have beef with people who want to use a thin blade but arent a 2 handicap.

In playablillity terms, i think clubs with thinner toplines are much easier to aim. there are less lines and clutter that could disguise where the face is truly aimed. Im not consistant enough to use a pure muscleback above an 7 iron, but ill take as thin of a topline as i can get.

If you aren't consistent enough at a 3.8, just imagine 15+ hc's using them and other players irons.....

Not all people around a 15 handicap have to have irons that look like shovels.

Just because the G5's work for you doesn't mean EVERYBODY else should use them.

I used to think thick soles and top lines would make an iron easier to hit and give me more confidence. So I got the Mizuno MX950s. But after some time I realized that when I am hitting the ball good it doesn't matter what irons I am playing, and when I am hitting it bad, again it doesn't matter, I will still hit the ball bad even with SGIs. I learned my lesson. My next irons would be Mizuno MPs. I tried several thin CBs like Titleist and Mizuno MP52 and I found that not only does the thin top line inspire confidence at address, but the iron looks and feels much better and as a result my ball striking becomes much better.

Here is a helpful hint. If you do good practice, your ball striking will improve with your current irons! You said you will have bad shots with either irons. So why not use the GI where your bad shots will be better than your bad shots with the mp's.

The blades today are much easier to hit compare to 5 or 10 years ago.

I like thin top line clubs

I am not saying that the G5's will work for everybody. But they are leaving stokes on the course by hitting players irons instead of GI's. I would like to hear how many GIR's the 15+ hc'ers who think they have good ballstriking and play players irons get per round.

Besides that, if a 3.8 hc doesn't have the consistency, there is no way a 15+ does. It is just not possible, unless they are the worst putter on earth.

I took my "shovels" yesterday afternoon, and beat my previous best score by ten strokes.

I'll 'Shovel" the ball all day long with improvement like that....

Do the G5s help with aim relative to other GI and SGI irons? Is there something about their design that ensures the clubface is pointing where I want the ball to start?

I'm really not trying to be sarcastic here. I've hit a few sets of 1/2 decent looking GI irons (struggled with aim and alignment) but not PINGS (out of my price range - really like the S series) and when setting up there's just too much going on - I start thinking more about the club than where I want to hit the ball.

Do people have so much pride that they can't accept that others have different opinions? So what if people call your clubs shovels or teaspoons, you're the one playing them.

I haven't played a whole lot different clubs, but I don't like the largest ones, mid-sized is OK, not too thin either.

IMO, no club helps with aim. Aiming is dependent on the golfer, not the clubs. Only you can ensure the club face is pointing where you want the ball to start.

With your comment about too much going on, I think it is a mental thing for you. Before these G5's I was using Macgregor MT Pro's. I'll post a pic of the 7i mb. I didn't have any problems with aim switching to the GI irons. I also believe people overthink things on the golf course.

Imagine your target is the gap in the planks. I think you're aiming to hit a fade. Those MTs are so nice - sorry they weren't right for you, but based on the clubface, they never really had a fighting chance.

What do you mean, based on the clubface they never really had a fighting chance? I wasn't aiming at anything btw, that is just how the face fell when I set the club down to take the pic.

Why not? Confidence adds a lot to your game. Something I just found out playing my dad's half-cavity backs (John Riley Repeaters). I bought the Nickent 3dx RC irons because they were supposed to be so much easier to hit and get in the air. After awhile I just couldn't get past how huge the clubhead is and how much I misalign due to the offset. I'll be playing the Repeaters until I find a new set, probably a similar style. I'm sure the technology is helpful but I just didn't like the way it looked/felt.

Dude, you should give those RC's another shot. They actually aren't that big compared to the Ping G series, or Callaway Big Bertha's. I totally love them and can't see myself getting another set of irons for a long time. It's kind of a shame actually that they are advertised for a 18-36 handicapper, I hope to break into single digits using them at some point.
