Well I am attending the University of Delaware this coming fall, and I am going to play the club golf team (if they have one, the UDel website seems to say they do, I'll probably shoot the person who runs it an email), and my longer term goal would be to somehow make the varsity team. It's a loft goal, Delaware is D1, but we'll see.

Good luck Jamo, college golf is a truly great experience and I hope you get to play for Delaware.

To answer this thread, since I have done #1 (hole-in-one) and #2 (shot in the 60s), that just leaves #3 which is to travel and play golf around the world. I have never played anywhere other than the East Coast of the U.S., so I have a long list of courses to play around the world. I better get started! If I had to add a #4 it would be to win the NJ State Amateur or NJ Open (not looking so good right now since I haven't even entered them in 2 years).

Good Luck Jamo... there have been quite a few players on the Nationwide and PGA Tours that have "walked" on to their college golf teams. Seems like you're a pretty decent player already, just make sure your short game is rock solid before tryouts. You play a couple of great rounds and the coach will take notice.

Cheers, Allan

#1 is luck, and #2 is dependent on practicing a ton and other things which aren't necessarily in my control. I have a family, a job, etc. so I just can't go out and live on the golf course, as much as I'd like to. So I think what I would really love to get out of golf is playing some beautiful courses around the world, and to teach my kids the game.

I want to do those things too - in approximately the same order as well.

I want to be able to truly enjoy playing a tough classic course. A lot of them rely on wind to be truly punishing. Playing and practicing in the wind is important to me, but it's also fun (might need those shots one day when it really counts). My conscious decision to work towards becoming a solid player - one who can play any type of course in any weather condition - is to be able to play anywhere if the opportunity arises. This won't ensure great scores, but it ups the odds a bit.

I don't think I will ever consider my golf complete. If I get to where I can consistently score in the mid-high seventies, I think will want to strive for the low-mid seventies, then scratch, etc. On the course I play most often, I have scored well enough on the indivual holes to shoot in the 60's (68 or 69 but in the 60's) --just not in the same round, lol.

I have unofficial hole in one-witnessed by my wife but she was not playing, so unofficial.

Now if I could play Pebble, Augusta, and St Andrews all in the same year and shoot 85 or less on each, I might just inshrine my sticks and call it a game.

1. Hole In One

#1 and #2 are complete, 3 holes in one, and many rounds in the 60's. #3, I've played all over Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and North Dakota in the midwest, and all over the west coast. But have no interest playing outside the U.S. My #4 is a quest to play in the US Open. That quest starts next Monday at local qualifing in Tucson.

Thanks. I don't know if it is even attainable (Delaware gives out scholarships and have signed letters of intent and so on) but it is a goal, and something to work to.

1.) Live near the perfect home course, where the greens are fast and a round never takes more than 3 hours.
2.) Become competitive in amateur tournaments, starting with local stuff and hopefully working my way up to state tourneys etc. (I never played high school or college golf, but I want golf to become my new form of ongoing sports competition now that high school and college sports are over. And I want to be good.)
3.) A birdie on all 18 holes would be nice, hahaha, I like that one! Why not

A huge improvment in my game between 100 yards in. Luckily, I hit my irons very well and putt good as well. If I can improve my average distance around the hole from 100 yards in, then, it should save strokes. To address this, my practice times at the range are now 70% short game (chipping, pitching, flopping), 20% ball striking, 10% putting. Hopefully my push for this helps!
