whenever im on a par 5 and im on my 2nd shot i usually just end up laying up with my 6 iron because i just cannot hit my 4-5 hybrid or my 3 wood.

usually when i hit them they hook, and then when i think about it and try not to hook it, i end up slicing it.

i know you have to treat the 4-5 hybrids just like they are irons but for the 3 wood are you supposed to hit down on it too? or should i treat that more like a driver?

does anyone have any tips for hitting these clubs?

A 4/5 hybrid only grt around the same yardage as a 5/6 iron anyway. You'd be better off with a 2/3 hybrid.

I usually push my hybrids, I hit them well, just not as straight as my irons..

I have the same problem with my 3 and 4 hybrid. I snap hook the thing like crazy. Thing is, there was a point where it was my money club, even off the tee. 200 easy. Now I either chunk it or really hook it. I'm thinking it might be the graphite shaft to be honest. On my new set I ordered the 4 iron as well, might have better luck.

And forget the 3 wood. I grew up learning on the 3 wood, used to be the only club I could hit when I was little. Now it's the only club I can't hit (at all).

The 3 wood is probably the easiest of my longer clubs to hit. Ball position a couple of balls inside the left feet, hit it like any long iron or hybrid, on the way down.

i hate hybrids, you have to hold them off so as not to hook them and end up hitting them sky high. the only time my hybrid sees the light of day is when i'm in the rough. i'd switch those out with irons if i were you. and treat the 3 wood like an iron, hit down on it.

I've been doing that a lot recently. The 3 clubs that I've got graphite shafts in (driver, 4 wood, 3 hybrid), I tend to hook them. They are also longer shafts but I find the main problem is that I get too flat and then come back to the ball over the top and then pull hook it. Also comes from the light shaft letting me whip it around too much too fast. I try to make sure that I come into it extra vertical and make sure I "catch" the club at the top of my back swing. That's my tempo key, catch the club, stop the club head. Mind which way you're finishing. The answer is all in your follow through.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.

    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
