I played my first round with the Taylor Made Penta this evening. All I can say is HOLY CRAP! This is without a doubt the best ball I've ever played. I'll be playing this ball until TM stops making them.

Hybrid: A3 19 degrees

Irons: i20's  Yellow dot

Ahh, now you're trying to move the goalposts!

Could you quote where I wrote anything else?

I also believe that when Golf Digest made this statement:

They didn't limit it to the Joe Average golfer either. They didn't limit it to anyone as a matter of fact, except that you were not a Tour player, which pretty much is 99.99999% people in this world. Including everyone from +3 handicap to 45.

@ Zeph and Kingfisher

Right off the hop, Zeph referred to low index players - I interpreted it to mean guys who are lower than me - a lot lower.

Having said that, every time I read a post outlining why a good ball striker could benefit from using a Pro V1, I'm reminded why I won't play it.

I don't really want "extra" spin, I want consistent spin. Why would I want a ball that may or may not release to the pin, might hop and stop (which my current ball does just fine) on one approach and might spin back 10 feet (or more if I'm playing short of the pin) on another. I tried to play Balata (different manufacturers) for a while. Not only did I not have the game for it, I didn't want that game - too risky. I'd rather play a ball that gives me consistent performance off the tee, from the fairway, from the rough and hazards, for approaches and on the greens. Not marshmallow feel necessarily (my putter does that for me anyway), but definitely consistent.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who can honesty justify playing a "Tour Ball" is cheating themselves by not playing Tour irons. Think about it.

Why is that? Does the ball interact differently with a Tour iron? And why should it matter what is stamped on the club? You should get whatever clubs fit your swing.

When it comes to playing soft balls, I actually don't mind it that much. Emphasizing my mistakes, being a slice or hook, might help me focus better on fixing it. I don't care all that much about scoring well, except in tournaments. On a casual round I want to see how my swing holds up on the course and what I struggle with. Pro V1 balls spin more so my off shots may get even more off, forcing me to work better on my game. Of course, any ball will spin sideways when I hook it, but I've got 80 something V1s lying around that I bought from eBay some years ago that I'm bound to use sometime. I think they are 07 or 08 models, so they are softer than the current model. I think I'll leave the ball discussion here, I've said what I wanted to say.

Well, firstly, I hold my hands up and apologise. I went back to read the start of the thread and indeed, low cappers were mentioned...I need to learn to read everything, not just skim the details!

Sean has got it spot on (with the exception of playing 'tour irons' to match 'tour balls') - a golfer should play what works for them, not what they think works for them, nor what works for other golfers and this is the point I am trying to make too. There are probably a ton of players out there who are using balls that either spin too much or don't spin enough and as a consequence their game is maybe not what it can be. Zeph, as I mentioned before its evident from all your posts that you are a good student of the game - clearly very book smart when it comes to the golf swing. Kudos for that. However, I find it hard to believe that you are playing a golf ball simply to exaggerate your bad shots, so that you have to work better on your game? You must be the only golfer out there who intentionally want to make their bad shot worse than it already is? Are you sure? Perhaps you should take the Cobra driver out of your bag and replace it with an old steel-shafted persimmon driver. You should also dump the hybrid and put a 2 iron in play, maybe throw a 1 iron in there too. These changes should help make you slices and hooks bigger than ever

I also said, "Think about it." It was a general reference to "tour" level equipment - what the H is that anyway?

Anyway, bang on with the persimmons comment. If someone wants to see if their swing is on track, I'd suggest three things: 1.) hit the driving range on a day when there's a strong steady headwind. 2.) put a persimmon wood in play. Any persimmon will do. 3.) Track down some vintage wound balls - Hogans, Titleist, whatever - play a round with them - use the persimmon too (or fairway wood).

I wish they had the e7 on the list. I play the e7 but am wondering if one of the other balls would do better for me. Oh, well. The fit van is in my area so I will hit it up probably tomorrow.

I bought a dozen of the Pinnacle Dimension yesterday and played a sleeve. They were long as usual, but were suprisingly good around the greens. There were a lot of shots i made within 50 yards that stopped literally inches from the hole.

I shot a 39 for 9 holes. Playing in a 4 man scramble this weekend so i was giving these a test drive to use off the tee. Decided to try them out after seeing a Pee-Knuckle ball on the hot list
