Pause the video at the top of the swing, see how far forward your head is? It is actually even further forward than it looks, the camera angle makes it look less than what is really happening. It is difficult to square or close the face at impact when the upper body is that far in front of the ball, even with your strong grip. In order to stop the push, you need to get the face closed to the swing path, which will create a nice push draw. If the ball is pushing way right though, you also need to work on your path, although, working on your upper body movement would solve much of that.

Your stance is also WAY too wide. Although it would be about right for a 50" driver.

Thanks I actually noticed my upper body movement when I looked at the video. Yeah I used to have my feet too close and when I got a lesson the instructor told me. I guess I overcompensated.

I know what you mean about the overcompensating, I've done that with different parts of the swing as well. Just remember, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

I'd say you need to narrow your stance about one and a half to two foot widths.

you dip down and back up while the same time your head is moving forwar, a lot of lateral movement in the backswing with the body, YOU REVERSE PIVOT( shift your weight forward on the backswing, then shift it to the back on the downswing), your very first move away from the ball is moving/hinging your wrist(not good), and holy hell narrow the stance boss.

Ball position!!!! What club are you hitting? Your ball is way too far forward it should be much more towards the middle of your stance with the club handle pointing at your belt buckle. Too try and cure your massive reverse pivot think about keeping your knees over your feet at address, as you turn into your back swing your back knee should stay over your foot but the right knee can rotate to the inside of your front foot then the opposite on the down swing, weight shifts forward but still keeping your front knee over your foot and the back knee can come to the inside of your back foot.

You need to go on youtube and watch a stack of swings, no one on there will have a swing and ball position like yours.

He doesn't reverse pivot, he just moves forwad the whole time. This swing needs a lot of work, there's a ton of compensations. Ball position, stance, setup, everything at adress looks terribly uncomfortable, and I think that's the main reason. With the ball so far forward, you

have to slide forward to reach it. The timing involved is monumental, and the chances of hitting a good shot are low. Start with setup. Feet shoulder width apart, ball in the center of stance for a short club, club should be leaning back (yours is leaning way forward). Even these simple tips will start to show improvement. Look at my setup below, or that of a young Tiger woods. Both of them are fairly similar. Notice, however, that I set up behind the ball a-la Moe Norman. http://thesandtrap.com/forum/attachm...4&d;=1274261465

Ball position!!!!

That's exactly what I though!! That ball position is way to far forward for an iron. I wouldn't play it that far forward for a driver! Move it back more to the middle for irons and just off your right heal for your driver.

Yeah, and what's really amazing is, look how far forward his ball position is compared to mine or Tiger's. Tiger and myself both have a very forward ball position, and a fairly high ball flight. Lefty's ball position is extreme. Every setup is a bit different, but the basics are the same.

Okay... let's try break it down for my fellow Tennessean:

1. Stance - narrow it up a bit - think shoulder width apart
2. Ball position - middle of your stance for most clubs - driver put off your right heal and wedge put off your left heal
3. Take the club back without breaking your wrists - you can break them later in the swing at the top, but let that happen naturally
4. Weight Shift - When you take the club back put 90% of your weight on your left leg - right now when you are at the top of your swing all your weight is forward on your right leg. When you come down shift your weight with your hips and let your arms follow - pull down on the club handle and release your wrists
5. Tempo - develop a rhythm for your swing
6. Balance - stay balanced throughout - don't over swing

Work on some of those and some of the other things people have said and keep going. Enjoy.

Wow thanks for all the replies. I worked a little on putting weight back then forward. I always thought that it was fine until I looked at a video. Here is one more swing. With 7 iron. I know my feet are still too far apart but how is the momentum?

I really think it would be a good swing if the setup were correct. Nearly every problem you have is setup related. The massive forward weight shift is because the ball is so forward, and the club still enters the ground nearly an inch behind the ball. Move that ball back like 7" or maybe even more, and you're getting somewhere.

Shanks is right... your set up is now the issue. Fix that and you will start to see and feel improvement. I think with ball position and a better stance you will be able to take the club back without having to hinge the wrists and you will be able to swing through the ball instead of lunging for it.

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
