Quick question... opinions are greatly appreciated.

I am currently gaming the Slingshot 4D's and I enjoy them... but I kind of feel they arent exactly for me. I have stumbled across a great deal on some Ping G5 irons... brand new standard black dot.

I have a couple of questions...

Which would be the better irons for game improvement?
Is it worth the upgrade?
Should I spend the extra cash on the G10s or G15s?
Can I take them to Golf Galaxy or a golf store of some sort to get them fit (bent to my specs) for me after purchasing them?
In my bag
Machspeed 9.5 Stiff
CrossBax 5 wood
Idea Tech 19* Hybrid
a3 22* Hybrid Slingshot 4D Graphite 5-AW Burner XD 56* & 60* Wedge Callie Putter e6+Home Course: www.dogwoodtracegolf.com

Slinghsots are as GI as you can get really. But they are all great irons, if you get a chance to try them, just get whichever feels the most comfortable for you....Good Luck

Ping G5, hands down.
In the bag...

G10 9° Driver
G10 17° 4 Wood
G10 21° Hybrid i15 4-PW Tour-W Wedges 50/12 & 56/10 Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 (35")Balls - Bridgestone B330-RX

I would prolly get the G5's if they fit you right go check out the ping fitting system on Ping's site.

They won't bend them. They will be sent back to Ping if you need a lie adjustment. It is fairly inexpensive to have done at Ping.

I had this same problem, except it was between Nike Slingshots OSS and Ping G2s. I stuck with the Ping's and sold Nike's. I had a much better feel with the Ping's, never could get comfortable with the Nike's.

Ping and Nike both make great clubs, and you'll have no problem with either, though the G5s are a bit higher end. Ping clubs can be bent fairly easily, or at least my local guy has no problem doing it. But still, I would buy the Pings as close to your lie angle as possible to avoid having to bend them too far.

In my opinion, Pings have better feel than most cast irons, but that's just my opinion. And I would get fitted for lie angle/length, and get Ping to do the bending for you. They will do it for cheap and will color in the correct corresponding dot for your fitting.

    • I watched the Golf Channel last night, and they showed the wet fairways.  Squishy!
    • Apparently mud on the ball has been a perceived issue at Quail Hollow. Scottie Scheffler mentioned it in his post round. He and Xander hooked it in the water on one hole.
    • Day 15 (15 May 25) - Solo round today (my Thurs partner is on a family trip) - so I made it a Two Ball Worst Ball round along with making it a back and forth between gold and white tees.  This meant on the 1st tee I played from the “white” tee box two tee shots (Hole 2 played from the “gold” tees - again two balls off the tee).  Then the approach was played from the worst of the two tee shots (if one is in the rough or OB and the other in the fairway - the former is where you have to play), likewise if both tee shots are in the fairway but you mishit one and it’s 20yds shorter, you pick up the longer ball and go back to the shorter one and play from there. On the green the “ball furthest from the pin” is where you putt from.  If you hole out you still have to roll the 2nd putt, if you miss then you play another 2rolls of the ball from that spot.  It really stings to hole out and know it’s not good unless you hole the 2nd. Likewise if you miss the first and hole the 2nd, you have to still have to play from the miss of the 1st.  The goal - to be bogie or better.  The end result - it creates a mental focus that is very competitive in nature.  How did it go? Shot an even 90 off par 72, playing from alternate tee boxes.  Only 2 dbl bogies (one on the front, one on the back) - but also had two pars.  The pars came from tee shots and approaches all ending relatively close to each other (15yds  or less apart).   Words of caution - (1) This is a slow course day exercise as you are literally playing twice as many shots on each hole; (2) you cannot get mad, you have to remain in the moment; (3) accept the idea the potential for bogie or worse is very possible.
    • I'll check with Denny.  Maybe we just drive a little extra to stay both nights in Cranberry Twp. Will let you know.
