When I played from HC 6 some 15 yrs ago I played Spalding Tour Edition balls, still have some of these old balls, which ball by modern standards comes close ..... as far as I remember construction was 2-piece with a soft cover....

I remember them. Bit hard for me but spun like crazy. Not sure it's like-for-like but the Bridgestone E5 (2010) might be similar. Two-piece w/ urethane cover hence decent spin. Might want to try out some of the tour-style balls though; if you like a harder feel off the face try looking at the Titleist ProV1x, Srixon Z-StarX or Bridgestone B330. Sure there are others; best answer (sorry!) would be to try a few out.....

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Well actually I am playing the e5 !!!, it comes close, but the Tour Edition is a bit longer and spins more. The e5 also spins a lot but doesn't really "check" on the green ...... of course the high end balls will provide the bite, but the good thing of the Tour Edition was the price was lowish..... How about the Srixon AD333 ?

How about the Srixon AD333 ?

Acutally I just played on of these sunday for the first time..and I will say it is looong..!! atleast one club longer..flew the green first 2 holes and then then hit a 5I 195 (5I is usually 180 or so) The only thing I'm not sure of is if it's gonna be enough spinn?? lost in the woods on next hole..stupid 3w..!!! I've read a bunch of reviews and alot of people knock the spinn on this ball as not being the best.

As far as cheaper balls go, I'm a big fan of the Nike PD Soft...

    • Right, and this is actually a disincentive to some of us. Think about how the backlash was when Tiger was "just" given a two-stroke penalty the next morning at the Masters when I was involved… 😉  Many people thought he should WD, or effectively DQ himself, for the incident. I can imagine a situation where a player is known to have been called back after signing for a 3 when they made a 4 and getting backlash for it. It may actually not work out as they think. And what if the player is shown preferential treatment in the "timing" of things: they come back at 18:00 but the PGA Tour fudges things to say "no, it was only 14 minutes later…?" Rules are best, IMO, when they're black and white. It's just golf — we're not sending someone to prison or to be executed. We don't need to leave a lot of wiggle room. KISS: when you've turned your card in and crossed the line they put on the ground that denotes the scoring area, you're done. It's turned in.

    • I’m pretty sure most of us agree on this point as it’s been mentioned in the thread that this likely only happened because the incident involved Jordan Spieth as opposed to some random journeyman.
