This post is mostly for iacas as I know he is familiar with this workflow, but if there are others that have input I'd appreciate it as well.

Basically, what is your workflow and what software do you use for taking swing video off of a digital video camera (e.g. Kodak Zi6/Zi8/Zx1/Playsport) on to a Mac and minimally editing it, then uploading it to YouTube as a slow-motion video?

Editing would include:
* Removing sound
* Clipping out only the relevant portion of the video
* Doing what ever else is possible to reduce the size of the file without compromising quality
* Saving so playback is at a defined speed 1/8, 1/16, etc. Bonus points for how to do this for only portions of the video while the rest is at real-time speed.
* Possibly inserting a "slide" including some text (not absolutely necessary)

I would also be interested in hearing what people use on Windows as well.

Pointers to online tutorials, books, etc are also appreciated. Thanks!

I've got a Casio EX-F1 that put out .mov files. Editing is done with Quicktime Professional where I trim the video, sound is not recorded on high speed videos. I can save the files directly as .mov files and upload them to Youtube. If I want to put the video into a program like Golf V1 Home, I'll convert it to mp4 using OJOSoft Total Video Converter.

When editing with Quicktime, I've found that using Ctrl+X (cut) works best. For some reason, when I use Delete, the order of the video gets messed up. I mark the area where a swing is, select trim to selection and trim away the rest by marking it at using cut.

Quicktime can skip a frame at the time using the arrows, you can also play the swing forth and back by moving the time bar with the mouse, a very useful function. I use Quicktime for watching and reviewing videos, and V1 Home if I want some lines drawn. When looking for head movement, hip push etc. I usually just position the cursor at the outer edge and play the movie. I always use a tripod when recording, so I know the camera doesn't move.

I've got Windows, but Quicktime is an Apple application, so you can get it for a Mac of course.

iMovie works quite nicely for the quickie things. Most of The Golf Evolution videos on YouTube were done in iMovie. For a lot of things, using Final Cut Pro is overkill - iMovie is fine.

I forgot to mention that I have read

We're developing something that'll be the equal of V1 in most ways, better than V1 in several ways, and which doesn't have a few of the mostly unused features in V1 for the Mac. Should be out by the end of July. Pro and Home versions. Some of the screenshots you've seen lately have come from this application. Will be Mac only.

Final Cut Express is also an option, but still much harder to hit the ground running with that iMovie... only $99

...sweet, really looking forward to seeing the home version of this program

Does Quicktime Pro allow you to export the video so that it automatically plays at 1/8 or 1/16 speed?

I was really excited until I saw Mac only. Will it be able to handle HD video? That's my big issue with V1. Even with the plug-ins I can't run it in HD.

Incredibly smoothly. You can draw on video while it's moving (not that I'd recommend it, simply because WHY but not for any technical reason). Heck, you can draw on TWO HD movies playing at the same time.

I was going to record a sample moving showing myself playing two HD (1080p no less) videos while drawing, but I wasn't happy with the compression of the screencast. It made it look bad (but still better than V1).
