My father n law wants to play me monday at my course. I've been splatten the driver all over the course these last 2 days since i've been off. Now if i can just keep the from slicing it, i've got on a bad trip of coming over the top with my driver for some reason. So it will be interesting, we will be playing wolf with a 5 person. I'm going on a yr. and half playing this game and he has been playing for over 15 yrs. He has about the same handicap as mine, so it's on. Fairways and greens. Right?

Coming over the top with the driver? Try shortening it a little bit. And don't play outside of your limitations. If you get the vibe that he's playing for keeps and plays really aggressive, it can be an easy round for you.

If you start to slice the driver dont be afraid to put it away and pull a wood or the hybrid out of the bag to jut set urself up better.

I'd pull the driver too. I saw your other post about hitting your driver, and unless you can fix your OTT move immediately (which is totally possible, btw) I'd hit 3 wood off the tee and let him roam the woods.

What is the vibe you are getting from him? Competitive or just for fun? Is this your first match with him? You say you are around the same handicaps? To me I would think he doesn't expect you to beat the pants off him, nor vice-versa. As cliche as this may sound, and like chip mentioned, play within yourself (your own game). Take things easy, have fun. If he does go the competitive route, and things start going bad for you, do yourself a favor and try to take things in stride, no swearing, no club slamming. You don't want your father-in-law thinking you're a total tool. If he turns into a hot-head just laugh to yourself and take comfort in the fact that you've got him beat, this time.

Yeah, if he starts trying to psych you out just mention how much you enjoy banging his daughter. Advantage ... you!

Have fun and don't take it too seriously.

to fix your driver try the following:

1) take the club back and have the shaft pointing down the target line with the club face perpendicular to the target line
2) take the club up slowly until your make a full turn
3) transition with your downswing starting with your hips, shoulder and the hands following
4) focus on tempo and smooth transition for solid contact and consistency
5) swing at 70- 80 percent for control and solid contact

work on putting and getting up and down for scoring.

Oh man - that would be cruel, unless he asks for details, then, he may have to forfeit.

If he wants to earn some brownie points, he could just be the etiquette poster-boy all day, then casually put one OB on 18.

Well the one thing i don't do is get hot headed and blow up. I played him at his club once, with him and his friends. And they play with there handicaps and i won 130$ from them. And he didn't win anything. Other than that we have just played some tournaments together, never against each other. So it'll be fun, we really get along great. I will keep you guys posted after it goes down. Thank you guys for all your advice and help with my swing. I'll give it my best.

Well here it is in a nut shell. I had a pretty bad day, my driver was better, still need to work out this ott thing. But his day was worse, it was really really bad. I shot an 95 to his 104. I tried to have a good day, but when your playing like crap it gets me down a little. So thats the end result.

Not sure why it was such a bad day for you. You scored the way an 18 handicap should on average.

Hmm, if that is the case then just flatten out your swing a little. When you start pulling the shot with the driver then you have flatten out too much.

Good luck and remember the most important thing in golf is to be good company.

What a gentleman you are. No subsitute for good manners.
