Both Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler failed the sectional qualifying rounds in Columbus, Ohio for the 2010 US Open today, bummer for sure

Rickie shot a 70-73-143 wtf?

Bubba shot a 71-69-140 with his first ever (Hole-n-one)

Just goes to show how tough it truly is to qualify for this event

Fowler qualified in 2008 and had a great first round IIRC.

He didn't qualify

You are correct:

Got into field as first alternate from Columbus, Ohio, sectional when 2003 PGA Championship winner Shaun Micheel withdrew; Fowler was the last man out of an 11-man playoff

The cutoff date for being in the top 50 was May 24.

Justin Rose is one spot below Fowler in the world ranking, and he won't be playing at Pebble Beach unless he wins this week in Memphis.

The British Open resolves the dilemma of a non-exempt, non-qualifier who goes on a hot streak immediately before the tournament by reserving entries for the highest-finishing players not yet in the field at the PGA and European Tour events held after the cut-off date for the other exemption criteria. Perhaps the USGA should institute a similar policy for its premier event.

He's not in the field for Memphis.

Then he definitely won't be in the field next week.

And to boot, the USGA gave a special exemption to Vijay because he did not make the top 50 on the 24th and didnt attempt to qualify. Hopefully Rose, Fowler and Watson will get one of those as well. Fowler draws more viewers than Vijay!

Those are two different things, Vijay has one of his last chances to play in the US Open at a good level while Fowler still has almost 30 years to try

Some of the thinking was Vijay played a few tournaments with an injury and he missed cuts as a result. If he had just sat out those tournaments, his ranking wouldn't have slipped as much. Or that is what the talking heads said on TGC the other night.

I think both played a little part into vijay getting the exemption but there's a good chance this will be vijay's last US open. I think the amount of events he plays and the amount of practicing he does finally caught up with him. He's only got a couple years before the champions tour and I'm betting he has some success there.

geez what do you have to shoot to qualify?

I believe the cutoff was somewhere around 136-137.

Best 9 holes: 35 (Trilogy at Redmond Ridge, 3163y, Par 35/70, 70.0/131)
Best 18: [b]77[b] (Palm Valley CC, 6545y, 71.4/126)
Notable career achievement: I have NEVER four-putt.

Special exemptions shouldn't exist.

Titleist 909D2 9.5°, Diamana Blue Stiff | Titleist 909F2 15.5°, Diamana Blue Stiff | Mizuno MP-57 3-P, Nippon NS Pro 1050GH Stiff | Titleist Vokey SM 54.11, 60.07 | Scotty Cameron ACVII / Napa California | Titleist Pro V1X

Make everyone other than the last 5 years of Major Champs and the Automatic Amatuers qualify....it would change things
