I was thinking about how hard i was swinging, and i think i am swing way to hard to the point that i cannot control my rhythm. I was wondering how hard everyone else swings. do you swing nice and easy are do you try to bang the ball in to space. I need to figure out whats the right speed.

I don't swing hard, or easy. I swing firm...it's always been my swing thought with regards to "how hard I swing". From a percentage standpoint, I think it's around 75-85% of my max. At 90%, I can still somewhat control the ball if I'm swinging well, and it goes a mile when I flush it, but it's not worth the loss in accuracy when I don't flush it. At 100%, I have absolutely no control whatsoever, not even worth swinging that hard in my opinion.

Umm... probably 90% with all clubs. I am not the type to let it up.

80% has been the "rule of thumb" I always remember. As thrasher says, it's hard to control more than that.

I've played in a scramble a couple of times with a certain 1 HDCP player, and he said that scrambles mess up his driver and fairways woods for his next individual round. He said if the middle HDCP player is regularly putting a drive in the fairway, he tries to really blast one to get the team closer to the hole.

The problem: He starts pressing too hard, and it wrecked his swing tempo.

Focus, connect and follow through!

The shorter the club is, the harder i typically swing. I feel with a driver im going about 80%. With pitching wedge (the shortest club ill take a full swing with) I feel im 90-100% alot of the time.

I'm the same. But sometimes I will go 110% on my driver if I just doubled or tripled the last hole.

I don't swing hard, or easy. I swing firm...it's always been my swing thought with regards to "how hard I swing"

I like that description. Anytime I've experimented with swinging easier, it's been a step backwards. My main goal is to accelerate through the ball. Regardless if it's a chip or a full swing.

When people say 100% are they referring to the maximum at which they can physically swing? Like, as hard as possible? If that's the case, I'd say I'd be in the 75% range. That almost seems to high when I think about how hard I swing compared to how hard I could swing.

Generally, I swing from 50% to 75% on most shots. The driver may be more around 80%. As large and strong as I am, that's all I need. 100% would be hard to control, and will take me past parallel.

I swing about 90% with my driver and about 80% - 85% with my irons.

I'm the same.

I seriously need to take advice from Jim McLean on this one, when the shoulders stop turning the arms stop turning. Do not continue to extend past what your shoulder turn takes you. Were your arms are at, is were your flexibly comfortable to support with the golf swing.

I swing as hard as I can everytime, can't help it.I don't want to, but when I get to the top of the backswing, my body just takes over and rips it.As a result, I play my second shot from the rough a lot hands don't get enough time to turn over and I get a massive slice going.Iron play is fairly solid though. It's obviously a psychological thing when I get the Driver in my hands, and I have no idea how to fix it.

A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

Nope, no way, no how. The reason you can't fix your slice is that your clubface is fine at impact, it's your club path. Slices are caused with an over the top swing and a square, or often closed clubface. Closing it more just makes you swing over the top more. Only when you know the real problem can you find the answer.

Eh, could be.Had a short session with a local pro who said I was swinging it well but just too fast with the Driver, meaning I didn't have time to get everything squared up at impact. But hey, he could be wrong for all I know. It's not that big a problem as it's just with the Driver. But the point is, I wasn't saying that I had no clue how to fix the slice with the Driver, I was saying that I had no idea how to resist the temptation to try and kill the ball with the Driver.Doesn't affect me with Irons.

I don't have a built-in power gauge, so I don't have a clue how hard I swing. I sure can hit it faster and harder, slower and softer, but to put my swing into a percentage? Nah... I don't have anything to compare it against, what is 100% if you obviously can go past it? Not to talk about everyone having a different feeling of what 80% is.

Try hitting it to the right, no matter how hard you swing, you shouldn't slice it.

pretty hard. probably 100 percent, its just kind of natural. and i can ramp it up to 110 if i want but i dont do that very often.

now when my timing or just my swing in general is out of whack, then it feels like im swinging way too hard.

    • I have had the flu recently which gave me plenty of time to pore over Joseph Mayo’s instagram. I have hit a ton of shots each day on carpet and a little started how easy this shot is to make. Key thought for me is bring the club “no closer to the earth.” That really resonated with me. If I really steepen the attack angle I can hit my 58* lob wedge barely an inch or two off the ground and a repeatable distance. I don’t recommend this but tried it to what the end ranges are for angle of descent. I actually think a 62*-64* wedge might be even better for this shot.
