Golf Digest's selection of Peggy Ference made the challenge to break 100 ever so elusive once again as she shot 118 at Pebble Beach. Anyone remotely surprised? Gotta think that they could choose someone to break 100. Wahlberg shot 97 and I've seen him play. He ain't got that much game.

How bout a spoiler alert?!!!!! Or just putting "results" in the title? I was planning on finding out when I watched Sunday - probably a lot of other folks as well.

I'm not surprised. She actually shot better than I thought she would though. I was thinking closer to 130.

They definitely could find someone to break 100. There are many scratch golfers out there who could easily break 100 and maybe even break 80 on a good day, but Golf Digest doesn't want that. They want someone who isn't going to come close so they can go on and on about how difficult the course is.

The whole idea was to have a 10 handicapper or so play it since Tiger said they couldn't break 100. Scratch is a long ways from a 10. It wasn't set up for a scratch golfer.

I told my buddy that there was no way she would break 100. I said I would quit golf is she did! What is she in her late 40's, early 50's? She can't hit the ball near far enough to handle a 7000+ yard course.

I realize that was the whole deal and why this thing got started initially. But, after three years now a 10 handicap hasn't broke 100. I also think it's time to start opening up the contest to other handicaps and not just people who are around 10's.

Who knows if the handicap's of these participants are in the neighborhood of a 10. I played Bethpage Black with a group of out of towners/clients last Friday. They were all guys who do well to shoot 95 on their home courses - one guy was a scratch golfer according to the group. He shot 91 from the whites. I'm a 10-12 and shot a nice, crisp 88.

Pretty sure she was a 4.9 or around there and from the articles I read on a few holes she couldn't even reach the red tees because they had her playing from the tips. She made one par the whole round, on the 12th hole, and jumped up and down hugging her caddy (Corey Pavin I think) like she had won something. They said the course was playing like a par 78 for her, but still, 40 strokes over that? I think having a woman in it playing from the mens tees was more of a publicity stunt this year than it was in years past. Another article said she was only driving around 200-225 yards. How do they ever expect someone to break 100 playing a 7,000+ yard course maxing out at 225 with their driver?

here is one article about it http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/u...hallenge-myers
and another: http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/b...n-contest.html

I would wager that's her max and not her average. Also, what would her handicap have been on that course when you add the rating/slope in??

Lemme play. I'm pretty sure I could break 100. It might not be pretty, but hitting 6 iron off every tee might get me there eventually....

They said somewhere around 12 I think.

There were 7 holes where she couldn't carry the distance off the tee to get to the fairway.

Must not have been a scratch golfer? That, or he had one terrible day. Hard for me to believe that a true scratch golfer shoots 91 from the whites there although I do realize it's a tough course. Tthat leads me to believe he wasn't actually scratch because more than likely a true scratch golfer wouldn't even tee it up from the whites.

Choosing someone who only hits it 200-225 for the challenge? How stupid.

Yes, making the "challenge" challenging is soo stupid!!

America picked her, not golf digest.

I was under the impression Mark was a single digit cap. As a matter of fact, I think he is an 18 from the other side of the ball, and like a 9ish from the side he normally plays from.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water
