.....ok this may be slighly embarrsing to you but butch harmon runs the most successful amateur golf school in the usa, and I know of course he probably doesnt spend alot of time with amateurs granted, however he did not just become a coach and immediately be wanted by the best in the world did he now? no he started then overtime after teachin any amateurs he acquired a vast knowledge of the game, then he became know.

To say the top professional golf coach in the world knows little about amateur golfers is absurd and you,re inteligent enough to know that. As for Faldo you know the old saying "thoses who cannot do teach and those who cannot teach do"

So you,re saying you can hit a golf ball as good as a solid ball striker crosshand? or mostly in the palm? I think not only me but the world would like to see that

And as for butch comments I do not find it hard to believe amateurs cant grasp the concept of the takeaway and grip(I struggled) as the average male score remains at just under 100!!! Surely if a chimp had a decent grasp of the basic fundements he would break 100, these basics arent easy and are so often overlooked, this is why golf scores are so poor, and if you have an alternate explanation I would be glad to hear it, as would the golfing world.

There is just no issue here, you have no leg to stand on, implying butch cant teach and amateurs have a decent grasp of the fundementals but most fail to break 90. I mean come on its blatantly obvious your arrogance is blinding you from things Im sure you know very well and understand way better than me but dont want to admit your mistaken at the same time.

Are you unaware of his family history?

And as an instructor I'm telling you that the average score being just under 100 is NOT because the average amateur doesn't grasp the GRIP.

You're new here. Do yourself a favor and read some of the thousands of posts I've made. I've received more than a few complaints about you, so I'll give you the chance to do so now.

(backtracking a page or so...) i'd heard that the flex of the right knee should be held, but i read it that ben hogan had said it (i hadn't heard butch saying the same until now) and that keeping it flexed helped you retain your angles; that once you let it straighten or sag you came out of alignment and would spend the rest of the swing compensating. what's the argument against keeping it flexed?

You gotta search around for that, it' been beat to death. Long story short: every good player straightens their right leg (not locks it). Some more than others, but everyone does it.

haha really? this is an internet forum its really not that serious. its stupid and pointless to rag on what an australian person for using bad grammar and taking everything so literally and seriously.

and whats with the whole you cant keep the flex in your back knee. it doesnt matter. if you straighten it out all the way thats not good, but it wont hurt anything if you dont change the flex. maybe its not good in a stack and tilt swing or something but otherwise its not even worth worrying about.

The left knee has a lot of bend during rotation in backswing, so it follows that the right must straighten slightly. Now if someone needs a collage to illustrate left knee bending, they can just look at one of the "right knee straightening" ones - it's the other leg in the photo.

I didn't notice the OP's grammar - I just assumed he was using a random word generator app.

I hope this cleared everything up for you, in fairness the internet is not a place for sound grammar I hope you come accustomed to this fact, haha and when an american comments on my grammar then I know I was a little hasty typing this out but its an internet forum so you have to make some allowances and lower your incredible high standards of grammar.

You are so wrong. Why is the internet a place for bad grammar? I might concede your point in a chat room, or a text message where speed or a reduction in keystrokes desired, but on a discussion forum, you want to make a point, and to do that you need to make yourself understood. A jumbled comment with poor grammar, bad spelling and inappropriate punctuation just tends to cause readers to misunderstand what you are trying to say.

Or, if they are like me, they are more inclined to just ignore you. I'm not here to decipher anyone's personal code. I prefer reading plain English.

I'm quite positive most good golfers can grip the club any old way and yank it back how ever and still hit shots with authority. The body's movements drive the swing.....Didn't Jack N. say the grip was nothing to get worked up about in Golf My Way.

I don't remember but if he said it I agree with him.

And Butch Harmon's certainly no know-it-all. From HIS book:
