2 Pros & countless players cant figure this one out. I hit my 8 iron 155 yds., my sw 110,my 20 deg. hybrid 210, my 3wood 235, my driver 225? I've bought way too many drivers trying to fix it,tried just about every possible swing change/set-up,ball position, grip, backswing, wrist hinge. experimented with many instructional videos. I've gone from a 4 hdc. to a 12. At the moment, pretty much have narrowed it down to the shaft? nothing off the rack works. I've bought numerous heads & shafts, assembled them & got no improvement. I play with younger guys who hit their drives 50 yds. past me,but on par 3s; I use the same iron/or less/than they do! Ready to just start using the 3wood if I cant find a solution. Does anyone have the answer?

Only thing I didn't see in this post was the loft of the driver(s) you're using. I bet by increasing the loft it'll help get the ball up in the air a bit more and give you more carry. The shafts you're using might also not have the right kick-point for your swing

Hi-Bore XLS 19* Hybrid Dynamic Gold S300
MP-60 4 thru PW Dynamic Gold S300 .588 REG 54* SW Vokey 58* LWSTX Greeny IV putter

I've tried all the lofts. If anything;the ball flies too high. I either hit my drives left with a hook,or right with a week fade. Ocasionally right down the middle, but that's 1 out of 6,if that. getting more loft would just send the wayward drives farther out of bounds. Everyone I play with has commented on how well I hit my 3-wood. why cant I hit a driver. The 3wood is an old orlimar with a 1in. tall face, with grafite stiff shaft. they no longer make that shaft.

really? it's counter intuitive.

I have to start the takeaway extra slow with the driver to make sure I stay in sequence. It is the make or break move for me. Give it a try.

Do you play your 3-Wood to a particular distance, even off the tee? What of your driver? My first guess would be that you might be over-swinging on the driver and possibly heeling or toeing it, but I bet one of the pros would have noticed that.

Post a video of your swing. If you are hitting the ball too high and short with your driver and hit your 8 iron 155, my guess would be that you are not swinging your driver like a driver, for a lack of better wording.

I am very surprised several pros have not noticed anything.

Write 3 wood on your driver.....j/k... If the pros do not see anything then it is tough. Do you hit the same shot on the range in front of them? My guess would be that your club head gets ahead of your hands during contact with the driver in attempt to swing harder but it is just a guess. With out seeing, it is a shot in the dark. It seems, with me too, the effort to hit your driver tends to distort your swing.

Anyway that is my two cents from a looney.

You have too much tension in your swing; try swinging with dead arms. Turn your chest on the backswing and just let your arms go along, same with downswing, keep the arms and hands out of it. Try half swings at first to get the feeling then move up to fuller swings.

Remember, light grip pressure, no tension in arms, start the swing with the chest. Should see great improvement.

I am starting to wonder where all the advice is coming from ......

I don't know how the USA handicap system works, but in the European system it is hardly possible to go from 4 to 12, which would means playing 80 tournaments outside the buffer.

When I read such a question for advise, I think the OP is making a joke ..... 2 pro's not able to tell what he is doing wrong ..... forget it.

    • I have had the flu recently which gave me plenty of time to pore over Joseph Mayo’s instagram. I have hit a ton of shots each day on carpet and a little started how easy this shot is to make. Key thought for me is bring the club “no closer to the earth.” That really resonated with me. If I really steepen the attack angle I can hit my 58* lob wedge barely an inch or two off the ground and a repeatable distance. I don’t recommend this but tried it to what the end ranges are for angle of descent. I actually think a 62*-64* wedge might be even better for this shot.
