PW/52/56/60 vs PW/52/58

I see a lot of guys adding a 60 degree wedges to a standard PW/(GW)/SW and a lot end up in the closet.

They're just hard to control ..... same with me, I have hit supershots with the 60, but it has also lost me many pars.

There is another route ..... replace the 56 by a 58 ! (at least I did).

How about you ?

After my 9 iron it goes like this:

50-GW
55-used to be a 56
60

I like the even 5* differences, and I think it adds to my consistancy

Theres really no point in removing my 60 as I use it alot and dont need room in my bag, as I carry no woods, besides my driver.

Bro, how do you find the 3 wedge set up? Do you ever get into tight situations where you could use more loft than your 56° wedge provides? (ex. short side) Or maybe just open it up perhaps?

I'm using a 4 wedge setup myself, but never find myself hitting a full lob instead using it for short flops and sand play. Just curious.

No woods ..... just how you look at your Hybrids ..... these are hybrids replacing woods in my opnion ......

I looked up the angle on the PW in my set--44. So I have three additional Vokey wedges, GW--50, SW--56, LW--62. As for hitting 58. 60, 62 wedges. it's hard to believe that what works for one doesn't work for the others--with the exception of the greater bounce in the SW. I had trouble hitting the highly lofted wedges on short grass and hard ground, until I saw a video clip on YouTube by Phil Mickelson. For thin lies with the very lofted wedge, he opens the face slightly, plays the ball slightly forward, presses forward, keeps his hands ahead of the club face (almost like a chip), and concentrates on hitting down. To me, it seemed almost counter-intuitive, but it works like a charm. I now practice hitting my 62 wedge off hard dirt. If I can do that consistently, I figure I should be able to handle anything else.

I did the 48-56-60 for years and then threw in a 52 for a summer. I actually prefer not having the 52 in the mix as I really started overthinking everything with all the options so I usually left it out. With my new wedge setup I am 48-54-60 and like the setup (I had my pw weakened 1 degree to get the gap to 6). I find that it makes my life easier this way. I think if I had a really strong pw like a 46, then I would definitely look at 46-52-58. I think that the right grind on the 58 would be good move.

How about PW-54-60?

that's what I use, I don't notice much of a gap between my PW and 54, I don't do full wedge shots though.

I'm change alot and have used many different bag set ups. I have used a PW, 52, 56, 60 then added a 64. I liked that but the 60 and 56 lost there spin so they got benched. For a while I carried my PW, GW, 58, 64. Works pretty well. I recently bought a 54, so I stuck that in there. But I haven't dialed that in and don't like the shaft in it so until I change it out (I made a mistake and bought it on ebay and didn't realize it had a graphite shaft on it but I did get a great deal so really no big deal) it is benched.

Finally, what am I using now: I just put my MP 60 irons back in the bag, so I have the PW (47) MP SW 53, and my 58 and 64. Where I typically play the sand is firm so the low/med bounce wedges work well there.

My only suggestion is to really work on figuring out each club. I haven't always done this and it seemed to hurt me. I'd say my favorite was the 52, 56, 60, 64 because of the different bounces so you have a wedge that works out of any lie but it is hard to figure out what iron to pull to carry 5 wedges.

I'd say I was most consistant when the wedges stayed in the bag for a long time. If I had the money I'd get rid of the 64 and replace it with a 62, then go 54, 58, 62. New wedges rule.

hmm.. as you see on my sig, I have 53-8, 58'-10 wedges. I choose a lot of shots that uses bounces and am familiar with using it. So 58-10 is enough for me to pull myself out from pretty deep bunker. I do most of chip shots with 53. I do use 58 for lob shots and sand shot, which get to be used one or two time per round.
Now I'm thinking adding a 51-6 and bend it to 50 since my PW is 47.
Way to go? or Unnecessary?

I carry a PW/SW/60. I don't really think it matters if you carry a 60 or a 58, or a 55 for a 56. It's how you play them and knowing your own game.

Yeah that could be said but I hate woods and layup often. The only holes people need woods are par 5s, but using a wood will not help because it will not land on the green for me. And for off the tee, but I like to tee of with my long irons.

I using hybrids for only long rough shots.

Your sig lists a 3-wood, a 3-hybrid is essentially a 7-wood, and you have a driving iron. Sounds like you have a lot of options off the tee - a nice setup.

That's what i have.

48 for 120y-140y, 52 for 50-y-120y ( plus most chipping around the green ), 56 for sand, 60 for flops etc

This is what I am doing at the moment because I lost my lob at a tournament.

I had quite a bit of control on my lob from 70 and in. As a matter of fact, it has cost me strokes not having it lately. I admit that I am getting used to hitting my SW in these situations, but I have to take so much off of it sometimes, that it is much harder to control than the 60 was.

I have found it easier to hit flops with my 56 because I don't have to take as big of a swing. Having to use my 56 so much lately, I may end up changing my setup next year and not going back with a 60. Some of that will depend on my new irons and what degree my PW is with the new clubs.
