I honestly thought it was absurd for him to stand there and put both arms up and then pause to soak in the adulation for what seemed like an eternity. I think a tip of the cap would have been sufficient, maybe waiving to the fans in all directions or something like that.

Just wait till it's Faldo's "turn"

I think you guys are crazy! he won 5 opens! It has been a massive part of his life and what he will be remembered for decades from now. I taught it was a very special moment, the crowd went crazy and its something I wont forget. He deserved every second of it, an absolute legend!

I would have thought Watson would have demonstrated just a touch of humility, but I guess not.

Maybe he got disoriented and forgot where he was?

Humility - rhymes with senility

yeah, well at least sir nick has a good sense of humor about things, if he did do something like that it would be more tongue in cheek than what watson did. it got pretty awkward after about 15 seconds.

I'm looking for Westwood to win this tourney. He is in a great position if Oosthuizen falters(which I expect him to do).

i think he'll take the lead tomorrow, then give it up somewhere on the back nine sunday. you can set your watch to lee losing majors in the last round.

It's not like he's gagged them away a la Scott Hoch or the fabulous Jean Van De Velde - he's just been outplayed. But I think his time is coming.

I think we see a lot of guys fall back tomorrow. Lee Westwood, Loius Can'tSpellHisName, Mark Can'tSpellThisOneEither, Tiley, Lehman, Jeong. I think Casey has a chance, O'Hair has a chance because he has been putting well, and I think if Tiger makes all of his putts inside 10 feet from here on out he wins hands down. As much as I dislike him, I also think John Daly has a chance if he gets over himself, stops kicking plants, and makes putts. He has burned the edge on so many putts the last few days, it's a miracle that he isn't leading.

Judy Rankin (who was following Tiger's group reporting for ESPN) said during the round just how well Tiger hit his driver and his irons. His ball striking was as good (or better) as we've seen him all year, and in that wind you can't fire at flags. The ball kept landing and running away from the pin, leaving him (and everyone) a lot of long putts. Which put pressure on Tiger's lag putting, and pressure on his ability to make 8 footers, which he did not do. I think th fact that he has to manipulate the ball so much in the wind gives Tiger a big advantage, it makes him really bear down and focus. And he pulls shots off more often than anyone. His up and down game has also been very good.

In my bag:

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | 15º 3-Wood: Ping G410 | 17º 2-Hybrid: Ping G410 | 19º 3-Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Lo |4-PW Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo | 54º SW, 60º LW: Titleist Vokey SM8 | Putter: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Why Phil needs to hit home run drives is beyond me. He could hit long irons to safe areas and have better iron shots to the greens. 40 mph winds and he's playing hero........... total idiot.

We have no idea about the the guy in the lead, and we are making these kind of presumptions? If its fairly calm.... he is in a nice place. Im just throwing it out there for discussion - not argument. The guy looks solid. He played position all day and came in looking pretty good.

    • My rule of thumb is a PW for everything from 100 yards in except specialty shots like a flop or a low runner.  I find it easier to eyeball it for distance and swing on feel for the distance I need to hit
    • Day 3: Worked on putting at different distances focusing on matching the backswing and follow-through lengths.

    • Circumstances led me to being off golf for almost a year.  Finally played a tournament two weeks ago, without touching the clubs and having to use my old set which had been passed down to dad.  Shot in the 90's with multiple bad holes.  Another tournament today and decided to play.  Much better round.  3 triples, 7 bogeys and 8 pars.  Two of those triples were courtesy of an OB and one was thanks to bad shots.  But overall much happier than 2 weeks ago.  Even managed to get runner-up in open stableford.  If those three triples had all been bogeys would even have been in contention for the open
