I'm looking for a specific type of GI irons and would like some suggestions.

Here's the criteria:
- Neutral bias. I hit a natural draw so no draw bias.
- Max forgiveness for off center hits. My misses are more toward the heel so that would be preferred.
- A prior years model would be great.

Off hand, I was thinking of like Ping G10/15 or Adams A4.

Any thoughts?

Kevin

Well, the MX-200 and MX-300 both have my attention, and one of them is last year's model. However, Mizuno prices don't seem to ever come down, so you're looking at this year's model prices. But I believe they fit your criteria, and either will work well with your existing MP-58s if you decide to mix the set. Check out, too, the Y-Tune technology; it will either be exactly what you're looking for (due to the heel misses) or the full opposite; I forget which. I think it's intended to give more forgiveness towards the heel, as they're intended as "better player's game improvement irons" (and you're certainly a better player than most).

I'm actually looking into mixing (as I've mentioned in a million threads, and people might be tired of me saying), and other than the MX-series, the only game improvement clubs that have really stood out for the higher irons are the Nike VR. These are last year's model, and are as cheap as $400/8 in many stores out here. I can't imagine they're more expensive where you are. They don't seem to have the shaft selection that Mizuno does, but I don't know if that's an absolute or just what I've been able to gather from the few websites that allow custom ordering.

Finally, if you're looking for a full set, the Adams A7 (I don't know the A4) are fantastic. From the 6 on down, it looks like you're hitting a slightly thick blade, but that cavity is certainly there. The 3 and 4 are hybrids; whether you keep your current ones or get the matching ones to go with it is your call. The 5 is somewhere between GI and SGI, and you can see the cavity at address, but it doesn't look upsetting at all. One of my mental hangups is that, when I see a cavity at address, I start to wonder why my swing is so bad. This is something I have to get over, and I finally got over it in the past year with respect to hybrids. Either way, if seeing the cavity on the 5 at address bothers you, this might not be right. But otherwise, it's a fantastic set.

I see you're looking at the Ping G10/15 series, too. I don't have any experience with these, so I can't offer you much in the way of help.

I believe each of these sets that I have mentioned has a neutral bias.

Shindig - I assume you're talking about the regular A7 and not the A7OS?

I would put a vote in for Titleist AP1, I am not in the same handicap range as you, but I feel mine have sufficient forgiveness for me. I know you can get the AP1 or AP1 710 for around $550, as I purchased mine new for $560 with free shipping from ebay.

Correct. The A7OS are super-game improvement, I believe.

I custom ordered a set of Nike VR Full Cavity for $399 from Golfsmith. I opted for these instead of Ping G5's, which can be had for <$400, custom ordered as well.

I would recommend the Ping g10. I just picked up a set ( 4-pw ) for $400 @ edwin watts. I just played my third round since buying them and it seems they keep getting better every time I go out!

The G10's are a good call, but I don't think they represent such an improvement over the G2, G5, or the i3 irons as to justify the higher price for which they usually sell.
