It was my understanding that 3-woods don't fall under the same rules as drives, in that the club face and ball speeds are not monitored as closely as drivers...if at all. Drivers are mandated not to exceed a certain ball speed where as 3-woods are not. I could be wrong, but this is what I have been told. This could be another reason as to why your distances tend to be greater with your 3-wood.

Try a 10.5, 11 or 12 degree driver with a Regular shaft that has same flex point as your 3 wood. Tell me the shaft in your 3 wood and I can make recommendations for a driver shaft.

A Regular shaft will go farther than a stiff shaft, but usually more errant. That's why your 3 W w/ regular shaft is as long as your drive.

With the right conditions I quite often hit 300yd tee shots with the 3 wood. I hit all of my clubs long except the driver - which leads me to believe I don't have the right fit. The only distances I base anything off of are the distances on the course. The launch monitor I have have been on typically shows all of my clubs to play shorter than they do.

Wow, impressive. I know there are numerous posts and counter posts regarding hitting the driver 300+ yards. I do believe you're the first i've read here to say you hit 300 yards with a 3 wood. Would love to see what kind of swing puts that kind of a beat down on a ball!!!

There are probably a few long hitters who've have done it at least once or twice (especially in the past couple seasons with longer balls and clubs). They probably also recognize it as a freak occurence not worth mentioning - imagine guys saying, "we hole out from the fairway quite often". Sure they do.

Yes, except he doesn't think it's a freak occurence, in fact he mentions that he does it, "quite often" under the right conditions........................and in general he says he hits it "straight" or with a slight draw, so i would imagine he has quite a high fairways hit %, much more than his handicap would suggest. Seriously, I would love to see how he does it on video, i mean his swing with a wood off the tee.

Sc**w the video. Just ask him to define "quite often".

Personally I'd say I eat a nice barbecued ribeye steak quite often since it's probably my favourite cut of steak. Do I eat a ribeye steak at every meal? Every day? Umm . . . no. Maybe once a month at most.

You should see my form - weight forward, but elbows off the table, left arm bent ~ 90 degrees as I fully release the steak into my mouth.

^ epic technique! However, I would recommend using less left hand and more right hand - with a glass of wine or frosty beverage in it.
