I was looking at pgatour.com for the TV schedue. Setting the old VCR since the leaders won't tee off for an hour or so.

What do I see? Carl Pettersen fires a 60 to be the leader in the clubhouse at -11. He was +1 after 4 holes and -11 on the last 14. Nice job!!

Knowing how Petterson plays, it must have been the ugliest-looking 60 of all time.

Dean Cain could replace Dean Wilson for the final round, and I wouldn't notice. Even money says they're the same person.

That crossed my mind as well.

The rains are sure making this tourney a birdie and eaglefest.

Anytime I see/hear anything about Carl Petterssen, all I can think of is when I saw him at the Shell Houston Open Pro-Am a few years ago. I was sitting in the stands around the #1 tee waiting for my tee time, and up walked Petterssen onto the tee. The pros had their own tent with pin sheets, ball markers, fruit, granola bars, and so on. We had our own tent; the only thing inside of it was bottled water and a bunch of tees. Petterssen hits his tee shot and walks off to the side. What does he do while his group of amateurs is teeing off? He walks into our tent and dumps every single tee in the huge bucket (not a little basket but a damn bucket) into his huge staff bag. Part of me was a little pissed off (mainly because now I wouldn't be able to do the same thing he did since he took all of them), but for the most part I couldn't stop laughing. A touring pro on the PGA Tour with a big endorsement deal with a big golf company, but there he is stealing all the tees he could just like the average hacker.

Clearly, Charlie Wi doesn't want Wilson to receive all the Stack & Tilt accolades this weekend: he's made his way to 11-under and into a share of second as the leaders are just starting their rounds.

Wilson looks like he is gonna tank it and take second....amazing what stress will do to you.

Pettersen needed to sink 9 footer for par on Friday to make the cut on the number. A helluva weekend for him.

How he's able to made a nine-foot putt of any consequence with that stroke is a mystery to me.

How accurate is your handicap? You're probably a fantastic putter, but in case you're anything like me, there's probably a lot about shooting 60, 67 on the weekend that's beyond your comprehension.

Yes. See, it's not as odd looking as many think.

When he hit poorer shots it's because he would not push forward long enough and the rate of closure (clubhead) would go too high, resulting in shots that started too far left for him.

On the DTL view it's looks the same as any solid swing. FO it almost has to be slowed down to look different. Add in the expert TV analysis (LOL) and then it's clear what's going on.

That is exactly what Peter Kostis mentioned (best thing he's ever said on TW..lol) when they slowed down his swing on the side view. He clearly didn't move fowrard enough on the downswing and the pressure/stress locked him into this issue causing his shots to hook left midway through his round yesterday.... That being said, during the last couple of holes he seemed to figure this out and hit some nice shots but by that time, it was to late.

Clearly, Carl has made his stroke work for him, and that's all that really matters. It's still hella ugly, and I would never be able to make anything trying to putt like that.

    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
    • He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.
