Recently, I purchased a 52* GC15 gap wedge. I hit it in the store, and I liked the way it felt. I payed no attention to yardage on the simulator, I was only interested in the feel, and I was excited with the prospect of added spin vs my other wedges. I liked it, so I bought it. I took it to the course, and HATED it! It still felt OK but I just wasn't getting the length out of it that I thought I would.

I got thinking about it today so I pulled up the stock lofts of my clubs online yet again. It turns out that I placed the club in the wrong position in my bag. I'm the type that places my clubs "in order" in my bag. So, when I put the GW in between my 9i and PW, I was sure that I had filled the gap. Turns out that this wedge fills the gap between my PW and SW. I put it the wrong place in my bag, hence the dramatic difference.

I realize that this post makes me look like the ASS that I AM. But I figure if I did it, then there is a chance that someone else did as well. If I had taken the time to learn how far I could hit the club before putting it in "THE" slot in my bag...

Let's just say I'm into self deprecation. If you have done the same, or similar help me out, and let the world know how much of an idiot you are too!

Can't say I have done that.. But I did blindly buy my lob wedge (didn't test it out) and I'll tell you, I thought I would have hit it 15 yards longer then I do. I still come up short sometimes!

Actually this is kind of funny - but how could you miss this when playing? One time in my golfing life - i hit 60° instead of 54° - and i wondered how that thing could be sooooo short, til i realized i hit the wrong club which was even more emberassing since it was matchplay, and i handed my opponent that hole that way - but playing the wrong club a whole round without realizing that something is off - NO.

I thought, or felt, the yardage was off, and honestly just could not figure out how they could be off that far. Seriously, it was not until I rechecked the lofts through my set that I realized I put it in the wrong place. Again, I understand just how stupid I am but it was truly an epiphany when I realized my mistake. I was considering getting rid of the iron, now I have to play it again, in the right position, to see how it works.

i've had add or subtracted when i should have subtracted or added when pacing off yardage before. Nothing like hitting your 140 clubs when you need a 160 ;b

Question is why did you think you think you needed to fill a gap between your PW and 9 ? In every set I have seen these clubs only have 4* of loft difference. I know you have figured this out now, but the "gap" is between a PW (44*-48*) and sw (54*-58*).

I a vokey gap and sw in play and on occasion I have grabbed the wrong one. Funny thing is most times it has made much a of difference.

I basically did the same thing as you mdbuschsr. I thought I had them in order in the bag but goofed up. What "gap" was I filling anyway. I don't really know how far I can hit anything. lol My excuse was that it was a first timers mistake that will never be made again. Yeah, right!

Done that before, thought I was getting my 6 iron and grabbed the 9 iron instead. Figured it out when I was really short!

I don't how you guys can do these things.

Don't you realize you might be hitting the wrong club just by looking at it at address? For instance, a 6 iron is noticably LONGER and LESS LOFTED than a 9.

You can basically say the same about a 56* and a 60*.

See the title of the thread. Like I said I purchased the club thinking (knowing) that I was filling a certain gap in my bag. Believe me it was an eye opener when I rechecked the stock lofts.

This is funny on many levels, yes it was moronic. but we've all been morons at some point. The part I thought was the funniest was about filling the gap between 9i and PW, when there is no gap to be filled between those clubs.

I agree. I guess it's just a matter of being familiar with your clubs. So if people have new clubs they may not have that "Feel" of each club yet. I've pulled a 9i out instead of a 6i before and immediately noticed as soon as I took it out of the bag based on weight, length and just the feel of the club.

If people put their clubs in order then they just reach for the club in a certain slot and just believe it's the right club (I'm guessing). I keep my clubs in certain "compartments" but they are not really in order I have to seek out each one, which may be a good thing. LOL
