Recommended Posts

I recently found out I'm being sent there in September for two weeks.

I would love to get a round in while I'm there - anyone have recommendations?

A couple of other questions...

1. Do any of the courses offer club rental?
2. I'm a HACK - a fast and ready one, but a hack nonetheless. No two ways about it (34 HCP). Will anyone care?

Thanks!

Where are you staying?

I think most courses offer rental clubs, depends where you are going.
There may be a couple of courses that limit handicap, but if so, they are upper class and generally expensive. On most courses it won't be a problem.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know where I'm staying yet, but I know a good portion of my time will be at the University of Oslo. Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Lots of nice courses around Oslo, but as Zeph pointed out there are in many cases a maximum handicap for play.

Losby G & CC(just outside Oslo, 25 minute drive from the University) HCP limit on the 18 hole, but the 9 hole course(a very good 9 hole course is free for all). This is my homeclub. Hosted a Ladies European Tour event a few years ago.
Grønmo(Gronmo) 20 minute drive from the university. No HCP limit i believe
Hauger : 25 minute drive from the uni. Pretty good 18 hole course, no HCP limit.
Bærum GC : No HCP limit, but max 2 36 hcp`er per flight.

There are more courses, but either very expensive or with max HCP reqs.
Bogstad, Miklagard is expensive at 900nok for 18 holes.

Thanks for the reply. The 9-hole sounds like a good starting point - I'm not sure exactly how much time I'll have between work and sightseeing but there's always time for 9 right?

    • But he won at -18 !!! Are you going to complain that it was too easy and boring to watch like you do for the PGA Tour?
    • He’s also the best anchoring putter there is!😏
    • And  he  has had alot  of  health issues as you expect  from someone still playing at  67
    • Good read (pun intended) as I have been using my feet more to feel the break and trusting these 65yr eyes less.  The only caveat to my case is that most rounds I wear a carbon graphite brace that runs the length of my left foot (replicates the toe "lift" sensation while walking by putting pressure on the rear of the left calf muscle and makes a great conversation piece to the guys I play with), and I tend to find the weight sensation somewhat muted on that foot when I wear it.  I do occasionally play without it and the left foot read gives a better transmission of info.  However not matter which way I'm playing that day (brace/no brace), pacing off the distance and coming back about 1/2 way and getting a foot read has really helped me determine the break, the startline and oveall pace.  Using my feet has definitely improved my confidence in terms of putting.
    • To still be winning tournaments at 67 is quite incredible. He must also be the youngest person to have shot his age or better by however many times he's done it. Amazing.
